POE 2 - Item Rarity Explained

Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) features four item rarities: Normal, Magic, Rare, and Unique items. Check out our guide to learn more about Item Rarity as well as how to upgrade item rarity.

Four Item Rarities Available

Type Description
POE 2 - Normal Item
Normal Items		 ・Most simple weapons in the game
・Can have a single modifier
・Item name will be in a white text box
POE 2 - Magic Item
Magic Items		 ・Available as drops from enemies, found in crates in the overworld, or crafted from a Normal item
・Can have at least two modifiers
・Item name will be in a blue text box
POE 2 - Rare Item
Rare Items		 ・Available as drops from stronger enemies or crafted from a Magic item
・Can have up to 6 modifiers
・Item name will be in a gold text box
POE 2 - Unique Item
Unique Items		 ・Available as loot from enemies
・Has modifiers unique to the item
・Item icon is different from previous rarities
・Item name will be in an orange text box

Path of Exile 2 features four rarities for the items in the game: Normal, Magic, Rare, and Unique. While players can find or craft most of the items, Unique items can only be found with specific methods such as successfully defeating a boss.

How to Upgrade Item Rarity

Use Currency Items to Upgrade Gear Up to Rare Items

Use Currency Items to Upgrade Gear

Players can use an Orb of Transmutation to upgrade a Normal item to a Magic item while a Regal Orb can be used upgrade a Magic item to a Rare item.

On the other hand, players that have extra or unwanted gear can disenchant them at the Magic Item vendor. This allows you to gather currency items such as Orbs of Transmutation or Regal Orbs to use on other items.

Currency Use/Purpose
Transmutation Orb Upgrades a normal item to a magic item with 1 modifier
Regal Orb Upgrades a magic item to a rare item
Alchemy Orb Upgrades a normal item to a rare with 4 modifiers
Essences Upgrades a normal item to a magic item with a specific modifier
