Tips on Beating Count Geonor |
---|
|
Players should opt to get Count Geonor to half HP while he is still in his human form to trigger phase two immediately. Compared to his human form, Count Geonor's wolf form is more difficult to face since his attacks larger and faster, making them harder to evade. Additionally, his ability to summon minions makes fighting him trickier.
Do note that when fighting him on the first try, players must take off approximately 80% of his health to trigger phase two.
Geonor's most overlooked attack is when he summons multiple beams of ice which explodes dealing heavy cold damage and inflicting Chill, or even Freeze. Dodging this attack opens you up to the next set of beams and attacking during this moment can be risky.
Players should prioritize refilling their life flasks by killing the spawning enemies during Count Geonor's mist cloud attack. Since Count Geonor's charges are difficult to anticipate, we recommend killing these enemies as soon as they spawn to avoid being overrun and heal the damage done from refilled life flasks.
When facing Count Geonor, preparing with the right gear is essential. Focus on boosting your cold resistancel to withstand his powerful attacks. Rings and Sapphire Charms are cheap and good ways to boost your Cold Resistance.
Defeat Beira in Clearfell to obtain the Head of the Winter Wolf. Smash it in your menu to gain a permanent 10% cold resistance bonus. Easy way to boost your survivability against cold damage!
Beira of the Rotten Pack Boss Guide
The Thawing Charm grants immunity to freeze for 3 seconds when you get frozen. Perfect for staying mobile and avoiding being stuck in place during Count Geonor's cold attacks!
If you don't have Thawing Charm, as an alternative, you can also use Silver Charm to gain immunity from Slow.
Thawing Charm Effects and How to Get
During the fog phase, Geonor always leaps from the opposite side of where you're standing. Hug the edge of the fog — this gives you more time to see him coming and dodge the leap. Staying dead-center is a recipe for disaster: less reaction time and zero clues on where he's coming from.
Also, you’ll know you're in the fog when you’re hit with the Lost in Fog debuff, which deals Cold Damage Over Time. Watch for it and reposition fast!
In this fight, movement speed is your best friend. A bonus of 10–15% on your boots can make all the difference when dodging high-damage moves like Geonor’s meteor slam or his sudden lunges. That little burst of speed often means the difference between a clutch dodge or a face full of frost.
Count Geonor doesn’t have any elemental weaknesses, so don’t expect to melt him with a specific type of damage.
Moves by Phase | |
---|---|
Phase 1 | Phase 2 |
Moves | Details and Tips |
---|---|
Human Form | |
1 to 4-Hit Sword Attack | Count Geonor swings his sword towards the player one to four times. Dodge roll away or kite him once he initiates the attack. |
Sword Charge and Ice Slash | Count Geonor charges at the player with his sword, impaling players and slamming them to the wall when hit. Afterward, he slashes backward, sending an ice wave. Prepare to dodge roll out of Count Geonor's path once he flashes red and takes a charge stance. After he charges, prepare to dodge roll again to evade the ice wave. |
Piercing Frost Wave | Count Geonor sends a narrow, frost projectile with his sword. Prepare to dodge roll out of the frost wave's path once Count Geonor flashes red and takes a piercing stance. |
Ice Spikes | Count Geonor slashes his sword and forms three lines of ice spikes in a cone formation. Dodge roll once you see him charging his sword. If caught in the middle of the cone, dodge roll out of it before Count Geonor sends out the middle spikes. |
Wolf Form | |
Freezing Sword Trap | Count Geonor plants his sword in the ground, creating a trap that freezes the player if they are in it for too long. Avoid stepping into the circle for too long while battling Count Geonor's wolf form. |
Wolf Summons | Count Geonor howls, summoning five werewolf minions to aid him in battle. Deal with the minions as soon as possible, making it easier to focus on evading Count Geonor's attacks and deal damage to him. |
Wolf Charge | Count Geonor creates three blood spheres in a straight line, then charges at them, causing them to explode. Use the blood markings on the ground to know the directory of the charge and move away from it and the blood spheres created. |
Wolf Meteor | Count Geonor starts fading and ascending and teleports above the player. He then charges towards the ground, dealing large AoE damage within the targeted area. As soon as the circle's red outline appears on the ground, start moving towards its perimeter and dodge roll out of it once you see Count Geonor falling. |
Moves | Details and Tips |
---|---|
Jagged Ice Spikes Eruption | Count Geonor sticks his sword in the ground, charging up then erupting huge ice spikes from the ground which covers the majority of the boss room. Once Count Geonor starts charging, move to the edge of the boss room to get out of that attack's AoE. If still within it, time your dodge perfectly to avoid taking damage from the eruption. |
Freezing Gale | Count Geonor spews multiple ice projectiles from his mouth in a cone shape. When Count Geonor says "Desolation!" or "Freezing Gale!", move or dodge roll toward his sides. This move gives sufficient time for players to deal damage if they properly dodge the attack. |
Ice Beams | Count Geonor raises his sword and summons multiple ice beams to strike the ground for four rounds, slowing players hit by them. When the count has low health, these ice beams will be infused with blood, increasing their AoE and damage. Once the beam's targeted area is shown, move away from them for all four rounds. If the player's build allows for it, they can also damage Count Geonor before the beams strike. |
Mist of Ice | Count Geonor creates a mist along the boss arena and hides in it. Enemies will then continuously spawn and Count Geonor will charge toward the player in five to six second intervals. When the count has low health, modified ice beams will fire before enemies start spawning. Kill enemies immediately after they spawn to avoid being overrun. Then, anticipate and dodge Count Geonor's charges using the five to six second interval rule. |
Note that attacks from phase one, specifically Blood Explosion, Ice Slash, and Wolf Meteor, can still be executed by Count Geonor during the second phase.
Count Geonor is the final boss of Act 1 and can be found at the end of the Ogham Manor.
