The Monk is a complex class that combines dexterity and intelligence to move around the battlefield with a mix of flowing physical attacks and elemental spells.
There are twenty active skills for Quarterstaves which Monks may use. Listed below are skills that were mentioned and showcased during the ExileCon Monk showcase:
Killing Palm dashes you forward and instantly kills cullable enemies to gain a Power Charge. Enemies will be in cullable range once a blue icon shows above them.
Wind Blast allows you to knock back enemies with a forward strike. Note that the knockback effect varies with enemy size and distance.
Glacial Cascade creates a wave of ice in front, slowing enemies that are pushing your position. The damage from this ability comes from the ice spike at the end of the wave, these spikes deal higher damage against frozen enemies.
Wave of Frost moves your character backward and throws an ice wave that builds a significant Freeze ailment. This attack is best partnered with Glacial Cascade, as the step back from the move puts you in a perfect distance for the ice spike damage.
Shattering Palm performs a palm strike that implants an ice bomb on your enemies. Killing or dealing enough damage to the enemy will cause the bomb to explode, building up Freeze ailment to nearby enemies.
Ice Strike imbues your weapon with ice, striking enemies while Ice Strike is active will build up Freeze ailment.
Falling Thunder performs a ground slam that deals lightning damage. When Power Charged, Falling Thunder deals higher damage and releases projectiles that can clear enemy waves.
Flicker Strike allows you to dash through multiple enemies, dealing damage that can burst down bosses and enemy hordes. Flicker Strike can also be empowered by the Monk's Power Charge, dealing higher damage.
The Monk will have two available Ascendancy classes for the Early Access, with another Ascendancy coming soon. Below is a list of the confirmed ascendancy classes for Monk:
Invoker | Acolyte of Chayula |
The Invoker is a Monk ascendancy class that is attuned to the elements, promoting further use of elemental attacks and elemental ailment buildup. Invokers can specialize in Ice or Lightning damage, increasing their chosen element's skill damage or potency.
Invokers can also transform themselves into Unbound Avatars, dealing more damage and increasing the elemental ailments inflicted on enemies.
Invoker Ascendancy Overview and Skills
The Acolyte of Chayula trades their Spirit resource for Darkness, an alternative resource that can be utilized to deal and absorb damage.
A key ability for Acolytes is Into the Breach, allowing them to peer into the realm of the Breech Demons where they can see and collect the Flames of Chayula, granting them life, mana, and damage boosts.
Acolyte of Chayula Ascendancy and Skills
The Monk is an intelligence and dexterity-based class, focusing on applying elemental damage while having high mobility during combat. The Monk is a melee fighter that specializes in mobility over brute force.
