Ashar, the Sand Mother Boss Guide

Add to Watchlist

Path of Exile 2 - Ashar, the Sand Mother
Ashar, the Sand Mother is the third-floor boss in the Trial of the Sekhemas in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2). See the location, the drops or rewards, tips on how to beat Ashar, the Sand Mother, and all her moves and mechanics here.

How to Beat Ashar, the Sand Mother

Tips on Beating Ashar, the Sand Mother

Dodge Forward Towards Her Back to Avoid Most Melee Attacks

Ashar does her most deadly attacks on melee range. Fortunately, these are well telegraphed and can be avoided by Dodge Rolling to the side and towards her back. Always be prepared to dodge the Tail Slam, Tail Swipe, and the other Tail Slam that propels her forward.

Avoid the Pressure Plates at All Cost

The pressure plates scattered across the middle of Ashar's boss arena trigger traps that releases swarms of Adorned Beetles, poison gas, or fire poison dart volleys across the arena.

These traps may deal significant Life and Honour damage, adding unnecessary complications to the fight. Be mindful of your positioning and avoid stepping on the plates whenever possible.

Don't Stay in the Quicksand!

Path of Exile - Ashar, the Sand Mother Quicksand

As Ashar tunnels in and out from the sand, she creates areas of quicksand that applies stacks of the Quicksand debuff which slows all your actions for each stack you have. Stay alert and plan your movement after she does the tunneling phase to avoid the quicksand as much as possible.

Use Trial of the Sekhemas Mechanics to Your Advantage

Use several Trial of Sekhemas mechanics to your advantage to make your fight with Ashar, the Sand Mother, easier! Here's a couple Trial of the Sekhema tips below:

Use Relics with Honour Resistance

Path of Exile 2 - Use Honour Resistance Relics

Relics are items that give you passive bonuses for a whole run. The best ones to use for your runs are ones with as much Honour Resistance. This stat, when capped at around 75% can increase your effective Honour by up to 400%!

Get the Good Boons and Avoid the Bad Afflictions

Best Boons to Get Afflictions to Avoid
・ Ornate Dagger
50% More Damage
・ Sanguine Vial
30% Less Monster Life
・ Viscous Ichor
15% Reduced Monster Action Speed
・ Blunt Sword
40% Less Damage
・ Spiker Shell
30% Reduced Monster Life
・ Any Affliction that Reduces or Removes any Defence Type

Success in the Trial of Sekhemas and defeating Ashar often hinges on selecting strong Boons and steering clear of debilitating Afflictions. Always review potential afflictions and strategize accordingly when selecting rooms in the Trial of Sekhemas to ensure a smoother run.

Get a Lower Level Djinn Barya

Path of Exile 2 - Get a Lower Level Djinn Barya

The Trial of Sekhemas’ monster level is tied to the level of the Djinn Barya used. A lower-level Djinn Barya means there would be less monster Life and Damage, making the Trial and the fight with Ashar, the Sand Mother, more manageable.

You’ll need a Djinn Barya with a minimum level of 60 to enter the third floor. Obtain this by farming in Campaign areas where monsters are level 60 or higher, or through trading.

Ashar, the Sand Mother Moves and Mechanics

Moves and Mechanics by Threat Level
High Threat Low Threat

High-Threat Moves

Move or Mechanic Details & How to Dodge
Poison Slam
Slightly pulls herself backward to prepare for a poisonous tail slam attack. This Slam Attack cannot be Dodge Rolled, so quickly move behind her to avoid any damage.
Tail Swipe
Shakes her tail and swipes it around, hitting anyone in mid-range. Though this move doesn't hit at a close range, it's still recommended to Dodge Roll forward to avoid unnecessary damage.
Tail Flip
Raises both claws, then slams her tail to propel herself forward. This move always transitions to a tail stand where she shoots poisonous projectiles. As she raises both claws, Dodge Roll to the sides to avoid damage.

These are most dangerous moves you should look out for when fighting Ashar, the Sand Mother. These attacks deal a lot of Life and Honour damage, with some dealing significant damage to one-shot unprepared builds.

Lower-Threat Moves

Move or Mechanic Details & How to Dodge
Poison Shots
After the tail flip attack, Ashar stands on her tail and shoots poisonous projectiles that leave Caustic Ground. Keep moving and Dodge Rolling to avoid all of her shots.
Tunnel Phase
From the tail stand, Ashar jumps and burrows into the sand, tunneling in and out while leaving quicksand at the entry and exit points. Always stay alert to avoid stepping into quicksand, as it slows you down and makes you vulnerable to attacks.
Claw Attack
Prepares one of her claws for an attack and delivers a fast jab. This move is fairly telegraphed and can be avoided by dodging sideways or toward her back.

These are Ashar's lower-threat moves that deal significantly less damage. Of course, it's still recommended to look out for these and avoid them when possible.
