From August 29, 2025 at 1 PM PDT, the game is free until September 1, 2025 at 1 PM PDT. This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in trying out the game as it will save your progress and will be available for PC, Xbox, and Playstation 5.
Note, however, that this expansion itself is free for those who already own Path of Exile 2.

This new update introduces Act 4. Doryani continues to help you on your journey as you look for a weapon against Corruption. Players can choose to start anywhere in Act 4, as unlike the first 3 acts, it is non-linear.
It offers 16 new areas and 12 new bosses for players to explore and discover before reaching the Interludes.

There is no longer be a Cruel Mode after finishing Act 4. Instead, three new Interlude Quests will be added. These are side stories available until the release of Act 5, and serve as your path to the Endgame.
These quests offer 19 new areas and 12 new bosses. Though the stories themselves are only temporary, the areas and enemies you will encounter will be part of the Endgame. The 3 new Interlude Quests are as follows:
If your current character is in Endgame and would like to explore the new areas, go back to the Act 3 town then talk to Ava to teleport to Act 4. If your character is in the middle of Cruel Mode, you will be teleported to the end of Act 3, where you can continue to Act 4.

Players can now sprint indefinitely by holding the dodge-roll button. After dodging, your character will start sprinting and outrun most enemies for faster navigation. However, getting hit while sprinting will make you trip and fall. A recommended solution would be to use skills when encountering enemies to stop sprinting.

Create a new character to explore the new league, which introduces the Abyssals. As you progress through a map, Abyssals will emerge through fissures. Defeating them will close the fissure, and closing all fissures within the area will lead you to a pit, where even more monsters will appear.
Defeating all the monsters will close the pit and reveal an Abyssal Armoury containing valuable loot. Abyssals absorb the enemies you kill, so even though they are more difficult to defeat, they also drop greater rewards.
It is important to note that the mechanics in the Rise Of The Abyssal League is not currently available in the core game.

Stronger support gems called Lineage Support Gems are added to the game. Similar to Unique Items, they provide powerful buffs or changes to your kit, and will only drop from specific bosses. 40 Lineage Support Gems will be added upon the update's release.
Lineage Support Gems Explained

Before, support gems can only be slotted into one skill at any given time. This upcoming update lets players slot support gems into multiple skills, allowing for more build diversity.
In addition, support gems previously had 3 levels, but now have 5 levels. Some support gems also have increasing tiers based on their level, which also influences the effects they provide.

Classes such as Ranger, Warrior, and Mercenary received several buffs, changes, and additions. These include general quality of life changes such as the introduction of the Deflect stat, and making weapon switching instantaneous.
Around 150 notable skills were added to the skill tree, along with the introduction of the Monk's Unarmed playstyle. New weapons and around a 20 - 25% decreased attribute requirement will also allow players to have even more freedom when creating builds.

Along with 25 new Endgame Maps, all new enemies are added to the Endgame. New mechanics such as Sandstorms and Maelstroms will function similarly to Citadels, where you must look for mechanisms within surrounding maps to unlock a hidden map.
Difficulty will also change, as the new update no longer gives good waystone modifiers, and will instead make all modifiers bad. Upgrading your waystone will make it contain harsher conditions but grant better rewards.

Instead of combining Simulacrum Splinters, you can now use Petition Splinters at the Realmgate to choose a difficulty. More difficult levels require a higher number of splinters, but this also gives players the chance to try this content much sooner.
Endgame Guide: What to Do After the Campaign?

You can pick up special Bones that imbue rare items and waystones with a hidden modifier. You must go to the Well of Souls within the new league to reveal this new modifier, allowing you to choose one of three available modifier options.
The new currency, Hinekora's Lock, allows you to see future modifiers of imbued items. Paired with the new Exceptional quality tier, which drops with high quality or more slots, this makes it incredibly useful when looking for the perfect equipment.

Essences now have 4 tiers: Lesser, Normal, Greater, and Perfect. Essences will now tell you exactly what stats they will provide before being used to upgrade equipment. Each tier offers increasing amounts of stats. Orbs themselves now also have tiers, ensuring that the stats you roll will be guaranteed to have higher values.
New Omens are added to Ritual content. An example would be the Omen of the Sanctification, which will make your item Sanctified and randomly alter its modifier values.

An NPC called Ange in Act 4 acts as a Merchant for a new in-game trading system. In your Hideout, you can give her items and set a price. From there, other players can see what you have for sale, teleport to your hideout, and purchase your item with in-game currency and gold.
Players who have Premium Stash Tabs before the release of The Third Edict can also upgrade them to Merchant Tabs if preferred. This change can be done through the official website.
Asynchronous Trade
