How to Add Friends | Exchanging Friend Codes

This is a guide on how to add and invite friends in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) for the Nintendo Switch. Read on to learn what you can do as friends, and host your own parties in your islands!

How to Add Friends Online via Friend Code

You can access your Friend Code by going to your profile on your Nintendo Switch. Select your icon on the HOME menu, and you'll be able to access your profile. You can access your Friend Code, along with a variety of other options, in this menu.

You can either input your friend's code, or your friend inputs your code on their system. Once accepted, you will be notified whenever your friend goes online! Dodo Airlines will also be notified if your friend has opened the gates to their island.

All Ways to Add Friends

If you go down to the Add Friend screen on your profile page, you will find numerous ways of adding people as friends.

Search for Local Users

This option will allow you to add friends who are within your vincinity, usually used for when you and your friends are in the same room.

Search for Users You Played With

This option will show you played users that you've recently played with in online games.

Search with Friend Code

This option will allow you to input a Friend Code.

Suggested Friends

If your Nintendo Account is linked with other accounts (such as Facebook or Super Mario Run), this option will allow you to search for your friends in the linked accounts to easily send them a request.

Once a friend has visited your island, you will be asked to download an app to your NookPhone. This is the Best Friends app, which will allow you to send them direct messages and add your friends as best friends!

ACNH - Friend and Best Friend Differences

Having someone as your Best Friend gives them more freedom on your island. They can use all of their tools, and you'll be able to chat them up using the Best Friends app. If you really trust your friend, you should consider adding them as your Best Friend!
