You Need the Regular Tool + 1 Gold Nugget

To create Golden Tools, you need the valuable Gold Nuggets as well as the normal version of the tool.

You should save some materials in your storage if you want to be able to make the tools right after getting the recipe!

For example, to make the Golden Axe, you will need the normal Axe.

Golden Sling Shot. pop 300 balloons and the next balloon (mine was yellow) that floats by will give you the DIY for the Golden Sling Shot - Cost to build, 1 Sling Shot & 1 Gold Nugget
