Spring Fishing Tourney Announcement.png
On the dates when the Fishing Tourney is hosted, C.J. will be waiting in front of Resident Services. An announcement will begin as soon as you leave your house that a Fishing Tourney will be hosted that day. If you're planning to participate, head to Resident Services and talk to C.J..

The Tourney ends at 6:00 PM, but C.J. will stay until 8:00 in the Plaza, so you can sell him fish until then.

CJ. Visits On Other Days As Well

Have collectible made.png
C.J. will sometimes randomly come to the island even on days other than the Fishing Tourney. On these days, you won't be able to receive any points for catching fish, but after you've participated in a Fishing Tourney at least once, you'll be able to sell him fish for 1.5x more than the usual price.
How to Find C.J.

Catch as Many Fish as Possible in 3 Minutes

Fishing Tourney Rules.jpg
The only rule of C.J.'s Fishing Tourney is to catch as many fish as you can in 3 minutes. All the fish you catch will automatically be sent to C.J.'s cooler, so you don't have to worry about emptying your inventory. Just go out there and fish 'em up!

Fishing Tourney Point System

Number of Fish Caught Number of Points
(Bonus included)
1 1 Point
2 2 Points
3 or more Number of fish caught + 2 Points

You will earn points equivalent to the number of fish you catch. Also, when you catch at least 3 fish, you'll get 2 bonus points along with your total, as shown above.

Get Bonus Points with Online Multiplayer

If you and your friends team up and participate in the Fishing Tourney together, you get Bonus points if the total amount of fish caught is more than 5.

This is a lot more efficient than playing on your own, so we recommend playing together with others for these events!

Our Team's Multiplayer Results

When we tested Fishing Tourney and Online Multiplayer, we got the above results.

From these results, we can see that if the team catches more than 5 fish in total, a 5 point bonus will be added to everyone's score, and 2 additional points get added for every player who catches 5 or more fish.

Sell Fish For 1.5x the Price

Before participating again, C.J. needs to clear out the cooler. To do so, he will buy the fish you have caught for 1.5x more than the normal price.

You can also check the cooler if there are fish you want to take before selling the rest to him.

How to Exchange Points for Fish Swag

Talk to C.J. after the Tourney

Fish Wand from Points
After the Fishing Tourney ends, you can talk to C.J. about other things, then select "Exchange my Points for Swag".

Exchange 10 Points for 1 Fish Swag

you can exchange 10 points for 1 exclusive item. Note that if you are low on points, you should participate in more tourneys to rack up points.

The Fish Swag You Receive is Random

The exclusive Fish Swag item you'll receive will be selected randomly. That means you'll need a lot of points to get all the Swag, so keep on fishing to get those points!

Fish Tourney Tips and Tricks

Prepare a Lot of Fish Bait

If you prepare Fish Bait ahead of time, you can use it during the Fishing Tourney. C.J. doesn't mention anything about it in his rules, and no penalties are given for using bait in the 3-minute window, so we recommend preparing plenty of bait before you start a round!

You need roughly 10 bags of bait per round

Depending on your skills and how quickly the fish bite, you can probably use a maximum of 10 bags of Fish Bait per 3 minute round.

Hook, line, and sinker at the beach!

Caught 10 fish.jpg
The best strategy is to run directly down to the beach where you are facing the water directly south, and immediately throw bait if no fish is there already. Fish will spawn directly in front of you with enough space for you to immediately to cast your lure.

Once you've thrown bait, you can press A in front of the fish that appear. We do not recommend doing this in ponds or rivers, because fish can spawn close to you, forcing you to adjust your position first before casting your lure.

Tip: If you hover over the bait in your inventory before starting the Tourney, you can quickly select it when you open your inventory again near water.

Avoid Medium-Sized Fish on During the Bunny Day Event

Fishing egg.jpg
The April Fishing Tourney will overlap with the Bunny Day event. We recommend avoiding medium-sized fish as to not waste any time. This is because you can fish up water eggs instead. Those are not counted as fish, therefore you will not get any points.
