Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) - List of Tools Header.png

This is a list of tools available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. To learn where to find the Axe, Fishing Rod, Net, Shovel, Slingshot, Watering Can, as well as the price of each tool, see the list below.

List of Tools

Axe

The Axe can be used to chop down trees on your island, both for materials and for landscaping. Chopping down a tree will leave a stump behind that can be dug up, so you'll need both an Axe and a Shovel if you want to completely get rid of a tree. If you want to get materials without cutting down trees, use Stone Axes.

Fishing Rod

The Fishing Rod is one of your most useful tools in this game, as it lets you catch fish from rivers, ponds and the sea. Fish are an endless source of Bells, so use a lot of Fishing Rods!

To fish, simply cast your lure near the shadow of a fish and wait for it to notice. Once it does, it will draw near, and bob towards the lure. It will eventually bite, usually on the 3-5th bob. Pressing A immediately after it does so will allow you to reel it in.

Net

The Net is another useful tool, as it lets you catch bugs, which can be sold to earn Bells. Bugs can be found in different places, but to catch one, you'll need to sneak up on it by holding A while using the Net and moving your stick very slightly, then releasing the A button when you are close enough for your Net to reach.

Shovel

The Shovel, used to dig up fossils, gyroids, plants, and pitfall seeds. It can also be used to dig up stumps and bury other items in the ground (such as fruit to grow trees). If you dig a hole in the ground, it'll remain there until you use the Shovel on the spot again, or kick the ground with the Y button to fill it back in.

Slingshot

The Slingshot can be used to shoot down mysterious gifts that float up in the sky.

Usually you can hear a gift blowing in the wind, so you'll want to look up to see where the gift is. Position yourself underneath it, then fire upward to break the balloon carrying it and claim the present for yourself. Be careful to not shoot it down too close to water, as it might fall in and disappear!

While the Slingshot seems to be unbreakable and can shoot an infinite amount of shots, the present will gradually move further and further away, until it eventually becomes inaccessible, so be sure to shoot it down before then!

Wands

Wands are a new feature to Animal Crossing: New Horizons that allow you to save a total of up to eight outfits, so that you can quickly change into them at any time.

Since each outfit can consist of headgear, accessories, shirts, pants, socks, and shoes, these wands can effectively be used to save some space in your house storage! Note that no matter how many wands you have, the same eight outfits will save and become accessible for each wand.

Also, if you change outfits via a wand, then drop the wand off somewhere, you will revert to your original clothing. This means that a wand needs to stay in your inventory to work. To change the outfits that you shortcut to your wand, use a wardrobe or closet in your house.
