Each island will start with a random fruit on many of the trees in the island. This is called their native fruit.
Other kinds of fruits are quite rare to obtain, if you're not going to another player's island.

Coconuts are easy to acquire as they're common in Mystery Island Tours. You can grow them on your island too, just keep in mind that they can only be planted on the beach.

Coconut | 250 Bells |
Fruits that originally grew on your island cost 100 Bells. It's very cheap and also sold in your island's Nook's Cranny
Fruits that weren't on your island, but from someone else's island are sold for 500 Bells.
These are called foreign fruits and can catch a hefty price. If you want to earn Bells through fruits, it's highly recommended that you visit a friend's island with a different native fruit!
Coconuts acquired from beaches and mystery islands cost 250 Bells.
To grow your own fruit tree, you can use a shovel to dig up a hole, and bury a fruit with it. The tree will be fully-grown in 4 days.
If your fruit tree isn't growing, there's a chance that other trees or buildings are too close to it.
To grow, your fruit tree needs at least 1 free space around it, so that's 8 spaces in total.
Make sure that you're planting Palm Trees on sand, as they'll wither on ordinary ground. However, you'll need to find Coconuts on Mystery Tours first.
How to Get Palm Trees on Your Island
You can press A in front of a tree to shake it. You can then pick up the fallen fruits by pressing the Y button.
Fruits grow back 3 days after you've harvested them.
If you're planning to craft DIY items that require fruits, it's best to keep a small stock stored instead of selling everything, since three days can be quite a long wait.
In previous Animal Crossing games, you could grow something called Perfect Fruits, those could spoil if left too long.
However, since Perfect Fruit doesn't exist in New Horizons, none of your fruits will spoil.
If your family of friends have different fruits on their islands than yours, visit each other though Local or Online play and share fruits with each other. Your friends can also mail you the fruits if you can't visit their islands!
How to Play Online
You can also use our Fruit and Recipe Trading Board to trade fruits with other players!
You can use Nook Miles Tickets to go on Mystery Tours to deserted islands, those will sometimes have fruits that differ from your starting fruit.
Just make sure you have plenty of space in your inventory to bring back as many fruits and goods as possible!
Mystery Island Tours and Nook Miles Ticket Guide
In the beginning of the game, you'll get a letter from Mom with a fruit attached to it.
This fruit will always be different from your starting/native fruit, so we recommend planting it to increase your fruit tree types as early as possible!
Like in past Animal Crossing games, you can eat fruit by selecting them from your pockets, and choosing to eat 1.
In New Horizons, there is a new feature that comes with eating fruits. You get a temporary strength boost that allows you to pull up trees, and break rocks.
What Happens When You Eat Fruit
You can eat fruits to get up to 10 points of stamina, as indicated by the stamina gauge at the top left of the screen, allowing you to do things you can't normally do in the game.
Other items that can be eaten such as turnips and bamboo shoots also give the same effect.
With the temporary strength boost, you can dig up trees and replant them using a shovel. Pulling up a tree costs you 1 point of stamina.
How to Pull Up Trees
Using a shovel on a rock will break it, so be careful when you're only trying to farm for ore and other materials.
When a rock is destroyed, it will spawn on a random spot the next day. Breaking a rock costs 1 point of stamina.
How to Break Rocks
To get rid of the fruits in your tummy, you can use a toilet to flush out your stamina points, if you get what we're saying.
If you don't have a toilet, you can go the long way which is digging up trees and planting them in the same place, just so you can use up the stamina points.
Different kinds of fruit can also be used to craft fruit furniture and items! You get your first fruit furniture recipes by providing for the 3 house kits requested by Tom Nook.
