A rare Gold Nugget is required to make a Golden Fishing Rod. Make sure you know how to get your hands on one of these first before trying to craft the Golden Fishing Rod!

Unlike previous games in the series, it's been confirmed that Golden Tools can break. This hasn't been confirmed currently for the Golden Fishing Rod, but as the Golden Axe and Golden Shovel were confirmed to break after about 100-200 uses, it's likely that the Golden Fishing Rod will break after a similar number of uses.
In previous games in the series, the Golden Fishing Rod had the special effort of lowering the rate of fish escaping after being snagged. However, this effect doesn't seem to be present in New Horizons.
We are currently investigating to see if there are any additional effects for the Golden Fishing Rod, but at the moment, it seems that its only effect is having a greater durability than a regular Fishing Rod.
