How to Make Black Tulips

Animal Crossing New Horizons (ACNH) Black Tulip

This guide will show you how to get Black Tulips in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH). Read on to learn how to breed Black Tulips and get more of them in your town!

How to Make Black Tulips

Cross Pollinate Two Red Tulips

ACNH - Flowers needed to grow Black Tulip

The first step in making Black Tulips is to gather up two Red Tulips. Note that the tulips you use will need to have been bought from Nook's Cranny as seeds, as the ones growing natively on your island have random cross pollination patterns.

Note: Tulips that are native to your island have random cross pollination patterns. The information given here will only cover flowers bought from a store.

Steps to breed Black Tulips

1 Gather two Red Tulips.
2 Plant them so they are next to each other.
3 Water them with your Watering Can.
4 Check for new flowers next day and repeat from step 3 if there are none.

Black Tulips can be cross pollinated using two Red Tulips. For more information on how to cross pollinate, see the link below.

Cross Pollination Guide

Black Tulips may not grow the next day

Even if you've fulfilled all the preconditions for Cross Pollination, Black Tulips may not grow the very next day. If there are no new flowers, you'll simply have to continue watering them.

Get them from Mystery Tours

There is a chance that Black Tulips might grow on Mystery Islands. Note that Mystery Islands can only ever give you one other type of flower, so you're not guaranteed to find Black Tulips on them.

Trade Online

If you're struggling to get a specific flower type or hybrid color, trading with others online might be the quickest way to get them!

Clone the Black Tulips you have

The easiest way to get Black Tulips for sure is to clone the ones you have. To clone flowers, plant them somewhere where they aren't touching any other flowers of their type and water them every day. Eventually, they will make a copy of themselves in one of the empty spaces!

Repeat the Breeding Process

Once you get Black Tulips to grow, you can repeat the process to get more. These flowers are used to make other hybrid flowers as well, so why not grow a lot while you're at it?
