If you get them to ask to replace someone and it's not the villager you want, close down the game without exiting the conversation, then keep trying, it SHOULD cycle through villagers
That happened to us too. I saw a YouTube video on it that if you close out without saving they may say another name when u go back in. but once it’s saved or switched users they will only say that same name. Totally frustrating, I agree.
Oooh vent away. I understand the frustration. I went ahead and bought amiibo cards so I could pick the villager I want and who I want to move.

I’m sorry for spreading negativity here but I’m so mad at the game right now, the campsite is so useless? I finally have a villager on the campsite and I’m trying to get her to move in, I tried about 8 times and she wanted to replace Beau almost every time! They ask if I know someone who wants to move out so why can’t I just pick the villager? Sorry but need to vent 😭
