New 3-COST and 1-COST Echoes are also introduced and are exclusively obtained from Nightmare Nests. These nests don't cost waveplates, but have a daily limit to farm.

All the new Nightmare echoes each have their own unlock conditions that all players need to fulfill. Also, all of them are unlocked when you reach Rinascita so you will have to progress more into the game to get them.

Nightmare: Tempest Mephis can be found at the end of Shores of Last Breath in Fagaceae Peninsula. Shores of Last Breath can be accessed after the Where Wind Returns to Celestial Realms exploration quest has been completed, and will only unlock after all Dream Patrol Challenges have been encountered in Fagaceae Peninsula.

Shores of Last Breath can be entered after starting the Where Wind Returns to Celestial Realms exploration quest. Interact with the fallen Lumiscale Construct by the entrance to initiate the quest.

Nightmare: Crownless can be unlocked after completing Ruins Where Shadows Roam and discovering all Dream Patrol challenges in Penitent's End. Note that players are not required to complete the challenges to unlock Nightmare: Crownless.

How to Start Ruins Where Shadows Roam
Open the Exploration Progress menu on the top left corner of the Map menu. Navigate to Penitent's End using the arrows and select Ruins Where Shadows Roam. Press the Track option to mark the objectives.

Encountering all 4 Dream Patrol challenges in Penitent's End unlocks the encounter with Nightmare: Crownless. Note that the Dream Patrol challenges are locked until the Ruins Where Shadows Roam has been completed.

You can find Nightmare: Hecate at Anima Cradle, located in Fabricatorium of the Deep. This enemy is unlocked by progressing through the Main Story Quest Dreamcatchers in the Secret Gardens, and can be tracked through the Guidebook under Nightmare Purification, in the Recurring Challenges tab.

What Are Nightmare Echoes?
Overlord Echoes with Different Abilities
Tempest Mephis and Nightmare: Tempest Mephis comparison
Nightmare Echoes are variants of Overlord Echoes that perform a different ability. These Echoes have a unique animation and are coated in a rainbow glow to differentiate themselves from their normal counterparts.
List of All Overlord Class Echoes
Grants Passive Bonuses When Equipped in Main Slot
Nightmare Echoes grant a buff simply by equipping it in the main slot. This allows characters to gain the full benefit of the Echo without the need to summon or transform, allowing more flexibility in team rotations.
Counted as a Unique Echo
Nightmare Echoes are treated as a unique echo, and can be equipped with their normal overlord variants to fulfill Sonata set requirements. This allows players to freely switch between the normal and nightmare variants when running a 44111 build.
Phantom Skin of Normal Variant is Not Available
Since Nightmare Echoes counts as a unique Echo, they cannot equip the Phantom Skin of its normal variant. However, it is worth noting that the rainbow glow of Nightmare Echoes are unique to their type.
