Wuthering Waves refer to elements with a unique name: Attributes. In-game terminology pertaining to elements also follows this naming convention, with terms like Attribute DMG referring to elemental damage.
There are a total of six Attributes in Wuthering Waves. Each Resonator is assigned one of these six elements that dictate their damage type.
Each Resonator's attacks deal elemental damage visually represented by colored damage numbers that correspond to an element. This also that means there are no neutral-element attacks by default in-game.

Enemies in-game are also aligned to an element by default. Their attacks will deal that element as damage, and certain enemies like Bosses can resist, or even be immune to specific elements.

Several Resonator skills, and equipment such as Weapons or Sonata Sets, can boost your Attribute DMG, or reduce an opponent's Attribute Resistance. Using these tools effectively forms a core part of gameplay.
Character Tier List and Best Characters
| Negative Status | Effects |
|---|---|
| Spectro Frazzle consumes stacks of itself to deal Spectro DMG to afflicted targets over a set duration. | |
| Aero Erosion will deal Aero DMG over time as long as the debuff persists, with more stacks of it dealing more damage. | |
| Electro Flare reduces the afflicted target's Attack, with more stacks leading to a larger reduction. | |
| Fusion Burst will deal a chunk of Fusion DMG in an explosion once 10 stacks of it have been accumulated by a target. | |
| Glacio Chafe reduces the target's movement speed, with a greater reduction taking effect with more stacks. At max stacks, the target is frozen for a short while. | |
| Havoc Bane will automatically stack once inflicted on a target, and will deal a burst of Havoc DMG at max stacks. |
Each Attribute has its own associated Status Effect that negatively affects both players and enemies when applied. It is ideal to avoid taking on any negative statuses in combat, while inflicting them upon your opponent if you have Resonators that can do so.
Negative Status Effects Explained
Stacking multiple types of Attribute DMG while in-combat produces no additional effects, meaning that there is no elemental interplay to consider when you are fighting enemies.

Additionally, there are no additional bonuses for matching your teams' Attributes; instead, look at your Resonators' skills to see who meshes well with one another for a good team!
