Fortify is a stat in Diablo 4 (D4) that absorbs incoming damage and lowers the amount of HP you lose when hit. Read on to learn more about Fortify, how to get Fortify, and what the list of Fortify skills and aspects are below!

What Does Fortify Do?
Reduces Damage Taken
Fortify is a positive status effect that grants 10% damage reduction. It has a separate and maximum value, similar to Life and class resources. Fortify value cannot exceed the amount of maximum Life, and Fortify depletes when out of combat.
How Fortify Works

 When gaining Fortify from Skills and other sources, it appears as a separate layer on the Life globe, and has a different shade of red. If current Life exceeds Fortify value, Fortify is not yet active and there is no damage reduction for incoming attacks. |

 When current Life is equal or below Fortify value, Fortify activates and the damage reduction kicks in. This is indicated by a ring around the Life globe. Losing Fortified Life will also cause you to lose Fortify and Life by the same amount. |

Can Improve with Gems and Passives
Fortify grants a 10% damage reduction and can be improved by socketing Sapphire Gems into armor, as well as some Paragon nodes and passive Skills.
How to Get Fortify
Upgrade Your Skills or Equip Items with Fortify
Depending on the class you are playing, some Skills have an upgrade path that grants you Fortify. Some skills or passives can also grant buffs to Fortify and its effects, but this does not necessarily grant Fortify itself unless explicitly stated.
Alternatively, you can also equip items with aspects or stats that grant you Fortify too.
Does Fortify Count as a Barrier?
No, Fortify and Barriers are Different
Fortify and Barriers are completely different mechanics, and passives that improve Barriers do not affect Fortify. Barriers absorb incoming damage, while Fortify reduces incoming damage.

|

|
Increases the amount of Fortify you gain from all sources by XX% and you gain YY% Damage Reduction while Fortified. |
 Nature's Resolve
|
XX% chance when struck to Fortify you for 4% Maximum life. |
 Safeguard
|
Critical Strikes with Earth Skills Fortify you for XX% of your Maximum life. |
 Stone Guard
|
While you have Fortify for over 50% of your Maximum Life, your Earth Skills deal XX% increased damage. |
 Thick Hide
|
Whenever you are Stunned, Immobilized, or Knocked Down, Fortify for XX% of your Maximum life. |
 Unrestrained
|
Reduce the duration of Control Impairing Effects by XX%. Double this effect while you have Fortify for over 50% of your Maximum Life. |

Your Core Skills deal up to 35 - 75% increased damage based on your amount of Fortify. |

Skinwalker's Aspect
|
When you use a Shapeshifting Skill that changes your form, gain 5 - 20% Life.;If you are at full Life, gain the same amount as Fortify. |
