Vault of the Crucible
The Vault of the Crucible will have you periodically take to the Ice Pillars to acquire the Ice Aegis buff, which is essential for traversing the flaming barriers that guard the dungeon.
Hellish Descent
To complete the Hellish Descent Capstone Dungeon, you must fill the sacrificial altars located within the dungeon. Only kills made within the red circle of the sacrificial altar count, so make sure to stand within the designated red circle.
Enclave of Darkness
True to its name, the Enclave of Darkness Capstone Dungeon begins with limited visibility. To light the surrounding areas, interact with the Luminiaries scattered throughout the dungeon.
Den of the Apostate Mechanic
There aren't any difficult mechanics in this dungeon. The objectives are fairly simple: defeat champions or elites.
Although it takes a while to whittle down barrier enemies, you don't need to make any significant changes to your build or playstyle. As long as your build is decent, you can triumph over them without much difficulty.

Breach of Sins Mechanic
In The Breach of Sins, you must destroy four demon gates before facing Azmodan as the final boss. You can destroy the gates and ignore the enemies in between if you can, since they don't count as objectives.

Integrated Into the Seasonal Rank System
Capstone Dungeons were removed after Season 6 but were introduced again in Season 11, the Season of Divine Intervention. They are now part of the Seasonal Ranking system, which offers rewards for completing in-game activities.

Challenge Dungeons That Progress Season Rank
Capstone Dungeons are challenge Dungeons with set dificulties that allows the players to increase their seasonal rank, providing multitude of rewards. They serve as a DPS check, as players will need to start optimizing their builds to finish Capstone Dungeons.
Difficulty Does Not Scale
Challenge Dungeons have set monster levels that do not scale with difficulty or the player's current level. If you're having trouble clearing a Capstone Dungeon, you can come back to it later with better gear and a higher level.
Unlocks The Pit and Tower
Completing the Hellish Descent Capstone Dungeon unlocks the Pit and the Tower, which are both essential endgame activities.
Since the Pit is required to unlock higher Torment difficulties, Capstone Dungeons are essentially mandatory for progression because you cannot advance to higher Torment difficulties without completing the Pit levels.
