Diablo 4 - Combat Guide (How to Beat Hard Enemies)

Diablo 4 (D4) features many hard-hitting enemies that can quickly take down careless players. Check out our combat guide and learn the best tips and strategies to beat hard enemies!

How to Beat Hard Enemies

Tips and Strategies for Taking Down Tough Foes

Always Stay Mobile During Combat

We highly recommend always staying mobile during combat to avoid taking unnecessary damage, especially against groups of enemies with plenty of ranged projectiles. While it's tempting to stand still and send a barrage of skills flying at your foes, you should only do this when you're sure the enemy can't retaliate.

Practice Kiting Around the Environment

We also recommend practicing kiting and leading around dangerous foes and groups of mobs. Putting your enemies in a disadvantageous position where you can sweep them all with a single area-of-effect or crowd control skill can quickly turn the tide of battle.

Upgrade Gear to Level 3 or Higher

Diablo 4 - How to Upgrade Weapons and Armor
One of the easiest ways to make fighting against foes easier is upgrading your gear at the Blacksmith. Enhancing your weapons and armor increases the stats they provide, which might just be enough for you to take out bosses and Elites that are giving you a hard time.

We recommend upgrading your gear at least three times, as the first three upgrades don't cost much while providing a decent boost to your weapons and armor's stats. You can save fourth and fifth-level upgrades for endgame gear, as they tend to cost a lot of high-rarity Upgrade Materials.

Party Up With Other Players

If you're struggling to beat something alone, consider grouping up with friends or other nearby players. Playing in party not only increases your overall damage output and survivability, but it also provides you with a 10% EXP bonus buff.

Consider Following a Strong Build

Diablo 4 - Consider Following a Strong Build
Having an imbalanced spread of skills and stats on your weapons and armor can be a source of difficulty when trying to clear tough dungeons and take down resilient foes. Check out our builds below for a solid set of skills, gear, Legendary Aspects, and Gems to use for every class!

Utilize Crowd Control Skills

We highly recommend having at least one source of Crowd Control in your set of skills, as abilities of this type often slow or disable enemies, making it easier to handle groups of mobs, Elites, and bosses. Some examples of Crowd Control skills for each class include Frost Nova, Ground Stomp, Petrify, Caltrops and Decrepify.

Craft and Drink Elixirs

The craftable Elixirs at the Alchemist provide potent damage bonuses and resistance buffs when consumed, making a substantial difference when dealing with difficult enemies. If you have a surplus of Plants in your inventory, don't hesitate to make and drink Elixirs, especially since they all provide a 5% Experience bonus for 30 minutes!

Look for Nearby Shrines

Diablo 4 - Look for Nearby Shrines

If you're about to face a particularly dangerous Elite or boss, try to look around for a nearby Shrine. While the effects they give can vary, the additional movement speed and unique buffs provided by each Shrine can give you a massive edge against hard-to-take-down enemies.
