Upgrades the Affixes of Your Equipment

Masterworks System Explained
Masterworks is the latest feature in Diablo 4, currently available only on the PTR Server. This feature replaces the regular equipment upgrades from the Blacksmith. This new feature can only be applied to Uniques or Tempered Ancestral Legendaries. This means that you can upgrade any equipment type as long as it is a Unique or Tempered Ancestral Legendary.

How to Unlock Masterworks

No Requirements to Unlock

Masterworks is immediately available and does not require any World Tier changes. However, you will not be able to use it until you obtain the materials required from The Pit, which can only be accessed in World Tier 4: Torment

How to Use Masterworks

Spend the Materials Obtained from the Pit

Masterworks Tab How to Use
Go to any Blacksmith and then select the last tab to access Masterworks. Choose the item you want to upgrade from your inventory and spend the materials obtained from The Pit, along with some gold, to upgrade your equipment. The required materials for this process vary depending on the current rank of your equipment.

Improving Success Chance On Every Fail

You gain an additional 10% Success Chance each time you fail an upgrade in Masterworks. This is particularly helpful, especially for Ranks 9 and above, as they require Neathiron and Forgotten Souls.

Reseting Masterworks Rank

Resetting Master Works
You can also reset the rank of any equipment you've upgraded using Masterworks by clicking on the red circle next to the item. This process has a 100% Success Chance and doesn't require any materials to complete.
