Have Your Desired Mercenary as Your Hired Mercenary

You can recruit two Mercenaries at once—one as your Hired Mercenary and one as your Reinforcement Mercenary. Keep in mind, however, that Reinforcement Mercenaries only receive half the Rapport that Hired Mercenaries do.

To level up your chosen Mercenary faster, be sure to assign them as your Hired Mercenary.

Complete the Campaign Quests

While playing the Vessel of Hatred campaign, focus on completing quests, as they grant both valuable EXP and Mercenary Rapport. Significant quests, such as the main story and Specialization Quests, reward 100–200 Rapport upon completion.

Eliminate Elites in Helltides and Helltide Events

Defeating Elites during Helltide events will reward you with around 5 Rapport per kill. This makes Helltides a great place to farm for both regular EXP and Mercenary Rapport. Additionally, completing Helltide Events will yield more Rapport.

Farm the Kurast Undercity

The Kurast Undercity is a time-trial dungeon introduced in the Vessel of Hatred Expansion. With a fast-clearing right build, it's an ideal spot to farm for Rapport, gear, and crafting materials.

What Does Rapport Do?

Unlocks Mercenary Skill Points

The first four ranks of your Rapport with your mercenary unlocks enough Skill Points to unlock up to two Active Skills, with two Passive Skills. There are no other methods to gaining skill points for your mercenaries other than from their first four Rappor Ranks.

These Skills do not apply to your assigned Reinforcement Mercenary.

Skills Can be Refunded Freely

You can freely move around the Skill Points you obtain for your Mercenary so feel free to explore possible combos with your build and your Reinforcement Mercenary.

Unlocks Bartering at Rank 5

Leveling your Rapport with a Mercenary to Rank 5 unlocks the Bartering mechanic where you can trade items with your Mercenary using Pale Marks.

Each Mercenary specializes in different things they offer when bartering. For example, Veranya will barter for an equipment that has a guaranteed Mobility Aspect, while Raheir will have one with a Defensive Aspect instead.

Bartering Improves at Rank 8

An additional legendary will be offered by each Mercenary when bartering upon reaching Rank 8 Rapport.

Rewards Bartering Currency

Certain ranks will reward 50 to 100 Pale Marks, which are the primary currency used for Bartering.

Rewards Equipment and Material Caches

Certain ranks will reward Legendary Equipment and Materials Caches. The type of material or equipment that drops from these caches depend on which Mercenary their Rapport Rank.
