Items break when their durability hits zero in Diablo 4 (D4), disabling their stats and bonuses. Learn more about durability and what happens when gear breaks, and find out how to repair items!
List of Contents
When equipped items break, they lose their stats and passive bonuses. Broken items become unusable and are virtually disabled until repaired.
Stat Guide: All Stats Explained
Equipping broken items will give you a Durability Broken status effect. This can be removed by repairing your gear and serves as a reminder that you are not fighting at full power.
You can repair your broken equipment in exchange for Gold over at the Blacksmith and by selecting the Repair tab. You are given the option to repair individual items, all equipped items, or all items on your person.
Blacksmith Features and Locations
Item durability is a stat on most equipment that determines if it is broken or not. Items have a durability of 100 and every time you die, they lose 10 durability. The game will warn you if your durability is dangerously low so you can repair your gear before diving into combat.
Death Penalty Explained: What Happens If You Die?
Equipment such as Amulets and Rings do not have durability and thus cannot be broken. You do not need to worry about losing the passive effects from your accessories if you have died several times.
