Party Bonuses and Group Scaling Explained

Party Bonuses and Group Scaling Summary

Being in a Party Gives More EXP

Diablo 4 - Being in a Party Gives More EXP

Players who are in proximity of another player gain the Nearby Player Bonus Status Effect which grants a 5% bonus EXP gain. This bonus is doubled if that player is a party member.

Parties can maximize EXP gains by farming Dungeons and resetting them, teaming up in Helltide Events, and other Endgame activities.

What Is the Maximum Party Size?

Areas Have Minimum Levels

Certain areas have minimum levels and do not necessarily scale with the lowest level player. These areas and the enemies in it are meant to be tackled later on in the game.

Players who are severely underleveled will have a difficult time, but this also means that players who are beyond the minimum level can easily carry lower level players for some easy EXP.

How to Farm EXP and Level Up Fast

Enemies Scale to Individual Players

Diablo 4 - Enemies Scale to Individual Players

Enemy HP, damage they deal and take are relative to every player's level. For example, if a higher level player shaves off 30% of a monster's HP, the lower level player will also see it drop by 30%, regardless of the damage dealt by the higher level player.

While controversial, it is an elegant solution to allow players of different levels to play together with a cohesive experience.

What Is the Max Level and Level Cap?

Number of Enemies Does Not Scale

Diablo 4 - Number of Enemies Does Not Scale

Enemy density remains fixed in all areas, and do not increase with the number of players. This is not a problem however because EXP is equally shared between party members, regardless of contribution, as long as they are not too far apart.

World State is Based on Party Leader's Progress

Diablo 4 - World State is Based on Party Leaders Progress

The world state and campaign progress are based on the party leader's progress. With this in mind, it is best to set the lowest level player be the party leader and help with Main Quest progression.
