Strongholds are a special type of open world location that have been claimed by the different enemies you find across Sanctuary in Diablo 4 (D4). See our full map to find all Stronghold locations, and learn how to quickly farm Strongholds for XP and Items.

How to Use the Interactive Map

The Interactive Map both shows the location of key points on the map, and doubles as a collectible checker.

1. Click an icon on the right side to show all the pins of a specific type, or click the magnifying glass button to search for a specific pin by name.
2. Click a pin on the map to see its name and description, and a relevant picture or video if available.
3. From here, click Mark as Acquired to indicate that you've gotten a collectible already. This will change its icon on the map to show that it has been collected, and add 1 to that pin type's Counter.
4. To undo this, click on the same pin and click Restore to unclaimed.
5. To check how many pins you have marked so far, check the Counter in the bottom left, and click the icon that looks like a checklist to see counters for all pin types.
6. If the collected pins start to get in the way, you can hide them all by clicking the green Show Pins button on the left side.

Icon	How to Use
	Show Names This button reveals the Name of every icon currently shown.
	Show Pins This button will toggle between showing and hiding all the pins which you have already marked as acquired.
	Fullscreen This button will change the map display to fill the screen.
	Search Mode Toggle This button will display a searchbar which you can use to search for an individual pin by its name.
	Icon Mode Toggle In Search Mode, this button will toggle you back to Icon Mode, removing the search bar and displaying the icons again.
	All Pins This button is shown along with the Icons on the right when there are over 6 types of pins. Click it for a full selection of all available pin types.
	Counter Tracks the number of pins you have of a certain type. The pin type shown is set to the page and currently cannot be changed; however, all pin type counters can be viewed by clicking the checklist icon on the right side.
	View All Counters This icon is found on the right side of the Counter. When a map has more than one pin type, click this icon to see Counters for all pin types.
	Zoom In / Zoom Out This icon is found on the top left side of the map. You can press these buttons, or use your scroll wheel while hovering, to Zoom In and Out of the interactive map.

Each region of Diablo 4 has 3 Strongholds for a total of 15 in the full game.

	Location: South of the Bear Tribe Refuge Waypoint, in the region northeast of Frigid Expanse and southwest of Seat of the Heavens.
Nostrava
	Location: North of the Nevesk Waypoint, in the mid-eastern area of The Pallid Glade.

	Location: Northeast of the Menestad Waypoint, on the north side of Sarkova Pass.

How to Farm Strongholds

Stronghold Reset EXP Farm for Party Play

This method of quickly farming EXP is ideal for when you have multiple members who all have at least one unclear Stronghold. This is also useful for players who just transitioned to World Tier 3 or 4 and want to get Sacred and Ancestral Items early.

#	Stronghold Reset EXP Farm Guide
1	Start and clear Stronghold run. Any Stronghold works, but the Onyx Watchtower is recommended because it can be finished quickly. If you have already cleared the Stronghold, join another player who has not cleared theirs.
2	One party member leaves the group to reset the Stronghold by leaving the game, and logging back in. This maintains the unfinished state of the Stronghold. Take note that this player will not gain EXP from ringing the bell.
3	Other members ring the bell to get the EXP from the cleared Stronghold, then join the party member who reset the Stronghold. This should present the party with a fresh Stronghold instance that can be farmed over and over.

What Are Strongholds?

Key Locations in the Open World that Must Be Reclaimed from Evil

Strongholds are tied to Diablo 4's brand new open world format, designating parts of the map as enemy-infested locations that you can clear out to reap a variety of rewards. Unlike instanced dungeons, these fixed locations transform the open world once cleared, allowing the NPCs of the region to resettle and turn it into a safe zone for the player.

Obtain a variety of rewards that range from high-tier equipment to dungeon access once you cleanse these areas of the many enemies that inhabit them.

Strongholds Have a Minimum Level Requirement

Do note that each of the Strongholds you find will have a minimum level requirement. Entering while below the recommended level will result in a much more difficult experience, often ending in death for newer players. If playing on Hardcore Mode, it will be better to level up before tackling this type of open-world content.

Unique Scenarios and Bosses for Each Stronghold

Each Stronghold you encounter across the different regions will have its very own unique scenario, ranging from a succubus-controlled cultist hamlet, to an undead infested lighthouse. Additionally, every Stronghold will also feature a unique boss at the end for you to fight.

Region Renown and High-Value Loot

Strongholds play into Diablo 4's brand new Renown system, rewarding players with Renown points that build up towards each region's various Renown milestones. Hit a milestone to get exclusive rewards like potion charges, skill points, and even Paragon Points at higher levels.

On top of the Renown reward, the devs have also shared that mobs found inside Strongholds will have a higher chance to drop rares and legendaries for you to collect. If you're looking to upgrade your gear, Strongholds are one of the best ways to do so.

Unlocks Unique Dungeons for Aspect Farming

A lot of the Strongholds found in Diablo 4 will also unlock Dungeons that, in turn, allow you to farm the various Legendary Aspects in the game. If you plan to use certain Legendary Aspects for your late-game builds, make sure to clear out all the Strongholds for each region to make target-farming Aspects easier.

Re-Populates Enemy Infested Locations

Clearing out Strongholds will also open them up to be repopulated by NPCs and vendors. This essentially transforms a once hostile area to a safe zone for the player during their exploration of the region.

Fast Travel Waypoints

Devs and early game footage have also confirmed that Waypoints can also be unlocked upon completion of a Stronghold. Clear out these sections of the region map to unlock convenient Fast Travel points for easier exploration, later on.
