How to Use Aspects

Complete a Dungeon to Unlock the Occultist

Diablo 4 - Complete a Dungeon
Before you can use Aspects, you first need to unlock the Occultist NPC and their accompanying Priority Quest. The easiest way to do this is by completing a Dungeon for the first time to obtain its Legendary Aspect in the Codex of Power.

Imprint Gear at the Occultist

After unlocking the Occultist, you can now use and imprint the Aspects you've obtained by navigating to the NPC's Imprint Aspect tab. Drag a Rare or Legendary item to the slot at the top of the tab and select a Legendary Aspect from the Codex of Power or your inventory to imprint onto it.

Note that imprinting Aspects onto items requires plenty of Gold and Veiled Crystals, so ensure you have enough resources before visiting the Occultist.

Available Aspect Types are Determined by the Gear Slot

Not every item is possible to use with every Aspect. Each Aspect Type has a set list of Gear Slots which it can be imprinted on.

Aspect Type Allowed Gear Slots
Offensive Amulet, Weapon, Gloves, Ring
Defensive Shield, Helm, Chest, Pants, Amulet
Resource Ring
Utility Shield, Helm, Chest, Amulet, Gloves, Boots
Mobility Amulet, Boots

Imprinting Aspects on Rare Items Changes Quality and Appearance

Diablo 4 - Change the Look of Items

Imprinting an Aspect onto a Rare quality item will upgrade it to a Legendary. However, note that doing so will render the item account-bound and ineligible for trading. On top of the quality upgrade, the Rare item will also take on a new appearance, with each Aspect granting a unique look to Rare items when imprinted.

How to Get Aspects

Complete Dungeons and Get Aspect Rewards

The simplest method of collecting Legendary Aspects is by clearing Dungeons. Completing a Dungeon for the first time unlocks one of the many Aspects listed in the Codex of Power. If you're looking for a specific Aspect, hover over its entry in the Codex to find the specific region or Dungeon you can find it in.

Track Dungeons for Aspects From the Codex

While it is completely viable to use the Map to look for Dungeons, players can find Dungeons more efficiently by choosing the Pin on Map option directly located in the Codex of Power. From the Codex of Power screen, simply left click on an Aspect to pin its Dungeon location then you can track that Dungeon by following the pin on your Map.

Extract Aspects from Legendary Items

You can also extract Aspects from old and unused Legendary items at the Occultist, who offers the service for a sum of Gold and Veiled Crystals. However, note that extracting Aspects permanently destroys the item.

Aspect FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Aspects

Are Aspects Consumed?

Only Extracted Aspects are Consumed

Diablo 4 - Are Aspects Consumable

Aspects that were extracted from Legendary items can only be used once. Upon imprinting, the legendary Aspect in your inventory will be consumed and the only way to get a copy of it is to extract the same Aspect from a different legendary item you own.

However, do note that Aspects available in the Codex of Power will not be consumed when imprinted onto a Rare or Legendary item.

Are Aspects Shared Account-Wide?

Codex of Power Aspects are Shared Between Characters

Diablo 4 - Are Aspects Account-Wide

Aspects available in the Codex of Power are shared account-wide and can be used by any of your other characters on the account. Codex of Power Aspects are obtained from Dungeons and main story progression.

Aspects found in your character's inventory, however, are not shared account-wide. Instead, these consumable Aspects are locked to the character who owns them.

Do Aspects Stack?

Aspects of the Same Effect Do Not Stack

Imprinting the same Aspect for all of your items is possible. However, do note that multiple Aspects with the same effect do not stack. We do not recommend stacking the same Aspect across all of your equipment as the effect will only be counted once.
