Headhunt Explained
Headhunt is a new zone event similar to Helltides for Season 7 of Diablo 4 (D4). Read on to learn more about what are Headhunts, their rewards, and their mechanics for taking on Headhunts here!

What are Headhunts?

Headhunts are Rotating Subzone Events

Headhunts are events that function similar to Helltides where they can influence specific zones within a region to introduce new Whisper bounties and activities. These events rotate regularly and can spawn multiple instances throughout the entire Sanctuary.

Keep in mind that there will always be three Headhunt zones active with each zone lasting for 40 minutes each.

Complete Whispers to Spawn Exposed Roots

Complete Whispers to Spawn Exposed Roots

The Headhunt event features new Whispers introduced in Season 7, mixed in with the existing Whispers as well. These Whispers can spawn Exposed Roots wherein once you interact with it, will spawn a few mobs for you to kill.

Destroy Uprooted Cocoons to Spawn Bosses

Destroy Uprooted Cocoons to Spawn Bosses

Once you have used an Exposed Root, it will spawn a few Uprooted Cocoons and mobs for you to clear. Defeating the nearby enemies that spawn will cause the Cocoon to explode and drop loot, while also giving a chance of spawning a Headrotten Boss.

In Season 7, they introduced a new location called the Raven of the Tree where you can claim Whisper Caches. These allow the player to turn in their Grim Favors and continue grinding seamlessly without needing to head back to the Tree of Whispers.

Fugitive Head from Headrotten Bosses

Fugitive Heads from Headrotten Bosses

Fugitive Heads offers tons of rewards that you can claim from the Coven. These do not drop from Headless Husk bosses and usually drop from Headrotten Bosses that still have their Fugitive Head attached to them.

Keep in mind that Fugitive Head drop rates are directly affected by your Difficulty and can reach up to a 10% drop chance on Torment IV in Headhunts.

How to Farm Fugitive Heads

Use Draught of Whispers for Better Chances

You can also use the Draught of Whispers elixir to essentially increase your chances by 50%. Keep in mind that this elixir only has a 1 hour duration and can be stacked with other elixirs.

Restless Rot from Headrotten Mobs

Restless Rot from Headrotten Mobs

Most of the enemies you encounter in Headhunt events will also drop Restless Rot, a seasonal currency you can use to either craft Occult Gems or upgrade/unlock Witchcraft Powers at the Witches’ Altar.

Completing Whisper events during Headhunts will additionally provide Seasonal Reputation, which increases the ranks of your Coven's Favor to obtain even more rewards such as Resplendent Spark, Witchcraft Powers, and Caches.

Veiled Crystals and Legendary Gear Drops

Aside from the seasonal drops, you can also pick up Veiled Crystals and Legendary Gear from the boss drops you get after defeating it. Keep in mind that these are not sure drops and may vary from time to time.
