Use a Whirlwind Build

Diablo 4 - Use a Whirlwind Build

The quickest way to farm Expertise for the Barbarian's Arsenal System is by using a Whirlwind build, as Whirlwind is the only Core Skill that can use any Arsenal weapon type.

To maximize gaining Expertise ranks with Whirlwind, equip two different one-handed weapon types like Sword & Mace, Mace & Axe, or Sword & Axe. You can then use another weapon type for other skills such as a two-handed weapon for your mobility skills like Leap or Charge. By using this strategy, it is a good idea to keep at least one of each weapon type.

Participate in World Events

Diablo 4 - World Event Nearby - Clear World Events

The only way of gaining Expertise is by dealing damage to enemies. The best way of doing so is by participating in World Events which are usually dense with enemy mobs. Use AoE skills like Whirlwind as mentioned above, or Hammer of the Ancients for maximum efficiency.

What is Expertise?

Grants Passive Effects Depending on Weapon Type

Diablo 4 - Mechanic for Arsenal System

Weapon Expertise is a mechanic used for the Arsenal System. It is exclusive to Barbarians and unlocked upon reaching Level 5. Using certain weapon types enough times in combat will rank up your Expertise for that specific weapon type.

Weapon Expertise grants passive effects and grow stronger in ranks, as long as you have that weapon type equipped.

Weapon Technique Slot

After reaching Level 15, you can do the Barbarian: Masters of Battle Quest to unlock the Weapon Technique slot. This allows you to use the passive effects of a Weapon Expertise, regardless of the weapon type currently equipped.

Take note that placing an Expertise in the Technique Slot does not double the passive effect if the equipped weapon is of the same type.
