Roothold Guide and Mechanics

List of Roothold Mechanics

Access Via Roothold Sigils

Roothold are seasonal dungeons that can only be accessed by using Roothold Sigils. Roothold Sigils are items similar to Nightmare Sigils which can be used to empower the said dungeons to convert them to Roothold Dungeons. These Sigils can be obtained the same way as Nightmare Dungeon Sigils.

Best Way to Farm is via Silent Chests

Roothold Sigils have a high chance of dropping from the locked Silent Chests in the Overworld. However, these are not as rare as they are during the past season due to their abundance during Headhunts! Be sure to go to the Purveyor of Curiosities to buy some Whispering Keys before running Headhunts to unlock these chests!

Activate a Rite, Ritual, or Ceremony

Activate a Rite, Ritual, or Ceremony

Once you head inside a Roothold, you can find 4 interactables that give challenges to the dungeon itself. Although this is similar to the Hellbreach mechanics, the difference for this one is you can activate multiple challenges at the same time.

Uproot Exposed Roots

Uproot Exposed Roots

Rootholds are guaranteed to spawn Exposed Roots throughout the dungeon so make sure to look out for these during your runs. Clear all the Exposed Roots by defeating the mobs that spawn near them so you can reach the Headrotten Boss at the end.

Defeat the Headrotten Boss

Defeat the Headrotten Boss

Once you have cleared all the Exposed Roots, your only objective would be to reach the boss area and defeat it. Keep in mind that Headrotten Bosses may vary between Headless Husk or Fugitive Head.

How to Enter Rootholds

Obtain Whisper Wood Sigils

Obtain Whisper Wood Sigils

In order to enter Rootholds, you first have to obtain Whisper Wood Sigils that you can obtain from Whisper Caches and Silent Chests. Once you have obtained one, you can go ahead and use it from your inventory and it will activate a teleport you can use directly to the Roothold dungeon.

Fugitive Head from Headrotten Bosses

Fugitive Heads from Headrotten Bosses

Fugitive Heads offers tons of rewards that you can claim from the Coven. These do not drop from Headless Husk bosses and usually drop from Headrotten Bosses that still have their Fugitive Head attached to them.

Keep in mind that Fugitive Head drop rates are directly affected by your Difficulty and can reach up to a 10% drop chance on Torment IV in Headhunts.

Use Draught of Whispers for Better Chances

You can also use the Draught of Whispers elixir to essentially increase your chances by 50%. Keep in mind that this elixir only has a 1 hour duration and can be stacked with other elixirs.

How to Get Draught of Whispers

Restless Rot from Headrotten Mobs

Restless Rot from Headrotten Mobs

Since most of the enemies you encounter in Roothold dungeons are Headrotten, they will also drop Restless Rot, a seasonal currency you can use to either craft Occult Gems or upgrade/unlock Witchcraft Powers at the Witches’ Altar.

How to Farm Restless Rot

Veiled Crystals and Legendary Gear Drops

Veiled Crystals and Legendary Gear Drops

Aside from the seasonal drops, you can also pick up Veiled Crystals and Legendary Gear from the boss drops you get after defeating it. Keep in mind that these are not sure drops and may vary from time to time.

What are Rootholds?

Seasonal Micro-Dungeons

Seasonal Micro-Dungeons

Rootholds are small dungeons that contain Headrotted enemies to give you various seasonal rewards. Each Roothold has a Headrotted Boss you need to defeat in order to clear the dungeon.

These function similarly to Nightmare Dungeons with a bit of a twist to some Hellbreach mechanics.
