Diablo 4 - How to Get Whispering Keys

Whispering Keys are used to open Silent Chests found in the open world of Diablo 4 (D4). Read on to learn how to get a Whispering Key from the Curiosity Vendor and how to use it to open a Silent Chest.

Purchased from the Purveyor of Curiosities Using Obols

Diablo 4 - Purveyor of Curiosities

Whispering Keys can be purchased from the Purveyor of Curiosities (found in settlements like Kyovashad) using 20 Obols. Look for an icon of a bag and question mark to find the vendor on your main map.

Used to Open Silent Chests

Diablo 4 - Silent Chest

Whispering Keys are used to open the Silent Chests you find as you explore the open world. They can be identified by the gold chains that bind them and the large lock adorning their fronts.

To use a Whispering Key, simply interact with a Silent Chests while having the key in your inventory (under Consumables).

Teleport Back to Town and Purchase a Key to Open Silent Chests

If you find a Silent Chest out in the field without a Whipsering Key in your inventory, you can use the Town Portal (press T on PC) to teleport back to your nearest discovered capital city.

From there, use your Obols to purchase a Whispering Key from the Curiosity Vendor before using the same Town Portal to return to where the Silent Chest was in the open world.

Silent Chest Rewards

Opening a Silent Chest with a Whispering Key rewards you with random item drops and some gold. Additionally, starting from Season 1 (Season of Malignant), the overall quality of the rewards from the Silent Chest will be significantly improved.
