The Strange Key is a quest item related to the Cow Level in Diablo 4 (D4) and is obtained by interacting with the Oxen gods in Ked Bardu. Read on to learn more about how to get the Strange Key, and how to use it!

Purify Three Relics and Place Them on the Oxen Gods

Diablo 4 - How to Get the Strange Key

To get the Strange Key for the Cow Level, you must first purify the Musty Tome, Bloody Wooden Shard, and Intricate Metallic Fragment. You can purify these relics by dropping them in the fountain water and picking them up again. After picking up the purified relics, place each of them in their corresponding Oxen Gods.

  1. The Musty Tome is placed on the Oxen God of the West.
  2. The Bloody Wooden Shard on the Oxen God of the North.
  3. Intricate Metallic Fragment on the Oxen God of the South.

After placing the relics, the Strange Key should appear on the fountain ground.

How to Use the Strange Key

Used on a Shack on the East of Scosglen

Diablo 4 - Forlorn Hovel Location

The Strange Key is used to open a shack on the far east of the Dead Forest in Scosglen. Using the key will unlock the cellar named Forlorn Hovel (Cow Level), and the key holder may enter the area.

Note that party members of the key holder cannot enter the cellar through its entrance, but they can teleport to the key holder's location once they're inside.
