Varyana is a former cannibal and butcher turned mercenary after she left her tribe. She is a berserker that loves to go up close and personal using moves like Cleave and Whirlwind to deal as much damage as she can throughout the fight.
She is great as an offensive tank and works well with both melee and ranged DPS players.

How to Unlock | Complete A Nameless Mystery Quest after unlocking The Den |
Aldkin is a half-demon child who was born from dark rituals performed on his mother. He has the ability to shapeshift and cast high-damaging spells from afar.
As a mage, he is a great ranged caster for those who require more AoE damage in their team.

How to Unlock | Complete A Feather on the Scale Quest after unlocking The Den |
After being shunned by the same people who had looked to him for salvation, Subo works as a bounty hunter for hire and is known as a disgraced archer from the mountains. He focuses on using ranged attacks with his arrows and provides a good amount of utility.
As a ranged physical damage dealer, he works well with most builds due to his various crowd-control abilities.
Aside from Rahier, to hire a mercenary, you first have to complete the questline tied to them. After completing it, you can start hiring them at the Mercenary Den.
Each mercenary can be set to two different enlistings, Main Companion and Reinforcement. Main Companion mercenaries are your main combat unit and will accompany you in the open world during solo play, while Reinforcement will turn them into a usable skill called Opportunities, which will aid you in combat for a brief moment.
Rapport is a trust system for mercenaries that is used for upgrades, skill points, caches, and improved bartering. Each mercenary has a Rapport that can be leveled up to 10, with each level giving you rewards such as Pale Marks, a currency used for Bartering.
To increase your mercenary's Rapport, you have to consistently use them either as a main companion or as reinforcements.
Bartering is used for purchasing gear and a wide variety of items with Pale Marks within the Mercenary Den. Level up your mercenary's Rapport to expand and unlock more items you can purchase in the shop.
Mercenaries are newly introduced combat companions exclusive to the Vessel of Hatred update. Each mercenary has a unique skill tree and will equip a different weapon depending on what skill tree they are using.
