How to Hire Mercenaries and Reinforcements

Complete Mercenary Questlines

Mercenary Guide - Questline
Aside from Rahier, to hire a mercenary, you first have to complete the questline tied to them. After completing it, you can start hiring them at the Mercenary Den.

Each mercenary can be set to two different enlistings, Main Companion and Reinforcement. Main Companion mercenaries are your main combat unit and will accompany you in the open world during solo play, while Reinforcement will turn them into a usable skill called Opportunities, which will aid you in combat for a brief moment.

How to Upgrade Mercenaries

Level Up Mercenaries Through the Rapport System

Mercenary Guide - Recruit
Rapport is a trust system for mercenaries that is used for upgrades, skill points, caches, and improved bartering. Each mercenary has a Rapport that can be leveled up to 10, with each level giving you rewards such as Pale Marks, a currency used for Bartering.

To increase your mercenary's Rapport, you have to consistently use them either as a main companion or as reinforcements.
