Diablo 4 - How to Use Two-Handed Weapons (How to Switch Barbarian Weapons)

In Diablo 4 (D4), Barbarians can switch weapons and ensure that they're using the best weapons for each skill in the Arsenal Selection feature. Read on to learn how to swap and use the best weapons and the benefits of using them!

How to Switch Barbarian Weapons

Equip a Two-Handed Weapon

Ensure that you've equipped a two-handed weapon by placing one in your Two-Handed Bludgeoning or Two-Handed Slashing gear slots in the Inventory screen. You can check if a weapon is two-handed by checking its tooltip in the Inventory.

Cycle Weapons in the Skill Bar

After you've equipped a two-handed weapon, open up your Skill Bar and hover over a skill that supports multiple weapon types. To swap the weapon for that skill, use the Arsenal Selection feature by pressing the Cycle Weapon key and select a two-handed weapon or your preferred weapon type.

Benefits of Swapping Barbarian Weapons

Leveling Two-Handed Weapon Expertise

Using two-handed weapons is required to level up the bonuses you get from Two-Handed Axe, Sword, and Mace Weapon Expertise. The Arsenal Selection feature allows you to force skills to use your preferred two-handed weapons and gain experience for their corresponding Expertise.

Enhanced Effects on Specific Skills

Two-handed weapons sometimes provide additional benefits when used in specific skills. For example, Bash stuns enemies for longer when using two-handed weapons, and its Combat Bash upgrade requires two-handed weapons to activate its effects.

Barbarian Skill Tree

Higher Damage Per Hit Than One-Handed Weapons

Generally, two-handed weapons deal more damage per hit than one-handed weapons at the cost of slower speed per swing. This characteristic makes two-handed weapons work better when used in heavy-hitting one-attack skills, such as Rupture and Death Blow.
