While previous Diablo titles allowed players to hire and gear up followers or mercenaries, as of writing, there has been no official news or announcements regarding the return of followers in Diablo 4

Temporary Followers Exist

However, temporary followers still exist in Diablo 4. These followers are temporary quest NPCs that assist the player while navigating through a story-related quest or Dungeon before disappearing upon completion.

Party Up With Other Players

The primary alternative for followers in Diablo 4 is partying up with other players to complete difficult Dungeons, Strongholds, and World Events. With Diablo 4 being an online-only game, you can easily find and group up with others to take on challenging content.
