Cliff Glitch: How to Climb the 4th Level
Learn how to climb to the fourth level with our step-by-step guide for Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) on the Nintendo Switch. Read on for more information about the glitch with our guide below!

What is the Cliff Glitch?
Players have discovered a bug that allows you to climb to the fourth level, first shared by user u/Glarglaflarg on Reddit.
Take note that this is a glitch not intended by the developers and may be taken out in future updates.
How to Climb the 4th Level
The Island Designer app and Cliff Construction Permit are required to be able to recreate this glitch.
Summary of Steps
| 1 | Set up space for the 4th cliff. |

| 3 | Create a rounded corner tile. |
| 4 | Place a 1x1 item at the center of the 2 tiles from the cliff edge. |
| 5 | Face the lower right corner, and press A to dig up. |
| 6 | Feel free to run around and decorate! |
1. Set up space for the 4th cliff
If you don't have a 4th cliff yet, take the time to set up space you want using the Cliff Construction Permit in the Island Designer app.
2. Dig up 3 tiles, creating an L-shape
From the third tile, dig up 3 tiles from the 4th tile, creating an L-shape. You may start from the northern side, and if the glitch does not work, try again, but this time, dig from the southern side.
3. Create a rounded corner tile
With the edge tile left behind, turn that into a rounded tile by pressing A on it.
4. Place a 1x1 item at the center of the 2 tiles at the cliff edge
Starting from the tiles before the cliff starts, place any 1x1 item at the center. Make sure you do this correctly as this step is crucial to recreating this glitch. To do so, place the item in between 2 tiles, so it gets placed in the middle.
5. Face the lower right corner and dig up

These 2 actions must be done quickly. Do not get frustrated and keep trying until you get the hang of it.
Make sure you are facing the item first, then turn to the lower right corner with the left control stick. Once your character faces the lower right corner, immediately hit the A button to dig. You may need to repeat this multiple times. Keep repeating it until you get the perfect timing. If you do it right you will be lifted to the 4th level.
If this is not the first time you are going up, make sure the surrounding tiles on the 4th level are empty, or you will not be able to go up.
6. Feel free to run around and decorate!
Success! You have made it to the untouchable 4th level! Feel free to enjoy the view and decorate with plants, trees, and items. Take note that you cannot remove flowers with the cleanup service once you go down, so be careful!
Please be reminded that this glitch will be patched sooner or later, and you may lose your items on the way, so do this at your own risk!
How to Get Down from the 4th Cliff Level
To go down from the 4th level, simply use a Ladder like you would with any other cliff. If you do not have a ladder on hand, you can call Rescue Service, or simply restart the game to spawn from your house.
