When visitors come to the island, your villagers talk about them with "they", if you have the game set to english. You can also choose whatever hairstyles and faces you want for your character. Body shape isn't changed based on the style you pick at the beginning, either. So, in my opinion, it's not a very big problem for this game. If anything, I kind of wish I could tick a box to get feminine pronouns, ahaha...but I also appreciate the inclusivity for people who aren't like me.
Would like to correct a bit of detail in this article. It says, "New Horizons allows you to use a Dresser Item in order to change your character's face freely..." Technically, the correct item is a mirror. I believe the dresser has a mirror, which is why it also allows you to change your face. But the table mirror, for example--which many people would obtain first--allows the player you change their features.
Gender doesn't really matter in this game, since both models are the same and all "style" options can be used between the two. Pretty sure it's only for your villagers talking about visitors you've had. Don't think I've seen another situation where it's mentioned at all. There isn't really a proper equivalent to "they" (or other pronouns) in Japanese that I know of. Not without sounding rude or just saying "that person". I believe that's where the basis of the difficulty lies.
This shows just how much you need to think before you click. You might just miss out on having a great place to build
Well i don't have to think about my island layout too much as i can change it later on but i think it would be great help for starting with the layout.
Thanks for this i can watch out what i do from the start so i don't regret my actions in the future. Now i have to spend an hour for thinking of an island name.
That's sad that i can't change the island name. I hope they give you a chance to change it for like one time only.
can you put the costs of the relocations too?

Gotta be careful about what I call my island. For all I know drunk me might pick buckface McGee and I cannot change it.
This is why you have to be careful when it says 'unchangeable'. Because if you name your island something unmentionable well...that's gonna stick. Real good.
Any updates if I can change my Island Name? I don't feel like the name I'm using right now. I planned to stop but I got invested into this island so I really need to change it. GGRRERRRRRRR

I failed to read that you can't change the hemisphere :(
Are the neighbors changeable?
I think you can change your islands grass pattern when you unlock the island editor.
