You get more cupcakes if you spam A faster during the pinata. Also, for those who don't want to time travel forward to get birthday items, you can time travel backwards (2019, 2018) on your birthday to have it celebrated. You cannot repeat birthdays (so no 2020 birthdays more than once). Somehow the game remembers and, for those who don't wanna ruin future birthdays, this is a good work around.

I only got the cake and miles no party

Instead of getting 6 cupcakes like most ppl in the comments, I end up getting 8. I know someone already mentioned this, how giving a cupcake to newer villagers, you will receive a non birthday item, i second that.

Just did this yesterday. Got "10" cupcakes but everyone at the party, including myself, had one so you are left with 6 to give away. Also, got a home made cake in the mail from Mom.

I only got 6 cupcakes as well. In addition, I gave one to a very new islander character whose friendship I am still working on, and her present wasn't birthday themed even though she wished me a happy birthday. It was a regular item of clothing. So now I don't have a complete set of birthday items. Annoying!

Something seems to have changed. Mom now sends 3,000 bells instead of a homemade cake. It’s like getting an Amazon gift card - where’s the live in that?!
