For me, this doesn't work, I bought all recipes including the "pretty good tools recipes" but now I cannot make anything because I don't have the axe. I tried going to Timmy and Tom but nothing works!! Someone please give an actual good answer
When talking to Timmy, go to what's on sale, then on the items list, go to the 2nd page with the (R) and you will find it
I had no idea why I didn’t have a flimsy axe, so I had to keep using nook miles tickets and just buying them from Wilbur. I’m good now, so thanks!!

I have 5 different bugs and fish and it still doesn’t work
No, to get the axe recipe you need to play as what I like to call the “main account” aka the first person who played the game when they got it. So to progress just log into the “main account’s” account on the switch and proceed to give tom nook the bugs/fish. After that just talk to timmy and you’ll see the recipe for the flimsy axe is available to all the other accounts in the shop he has.
My game doesn't have the option to give Tom nook anything and doesn't have it available to buy either.... Help
That happened to me too and I really want the axe but I don’t think I can get it anymore

If player 1 stopped playing that early into the game (for some reason), you could just play using their account. It by no means would put a stop to player 2’s progression in the game. Player 1 is supposed to be the main account, though. You could start ALWAYS playing on that account if it happened.
im about a week into the game and have paed of my dept and bought a house along with other stuff but i cant seem to unlock the flimsy axe i've tried all the suggestions but none of them work what should i do
HEY!!! me and my bro had some trouble and here’s what we did. i donated two different bugs to Tom nook. Me, the first player got the recipe. I made the axe w a stone and some branches. I bought an axe from Timmy. My brother went to timmy (one in the tent) and bought the recipe and was able to make his own!
Go talk to Tom with 2 different bugs on you.
See Timmy (the smaller raccoon) that sells and buys things. Ask to buy. Press the ZR (right trigger) Button. More options will show including the flimsy axe and the flimsy axe recipe.
So, if Player 1 fails to do their part, or stops playing entirely, all other players are BLOCKED! Very disappointed with this game.
You can buy all the DIY recipes from Timmy nook.

I had the same issue! Have found you can buy the recipe card for the flimsy axe from Timmy
