Tips for Beating Red Wolf of Radagon

Use Spirit Ashes to Summon Spirits

You can summon Spirit Ashes against the Red Wolves at the Academy of Raya Lucaria, West Liurnia, and Nokron. Tanky Spirit Ashes are great at distracting the Red Wolf, with sufficiently upgraded ones capable of withstanding the boss' relentless attacks.

Good Spirit Ashes to use against these Red Wolves include Banished Knight Oleg and Engvall due to their great defenses and aggressive attacks. The Mimic Tear is also a good choice against the Red Wolf in Nokron as it can distract the smaller wolves.

Run Opposite of Its Glintblade Phalanx

The Red Wolf will periodically summon sorceries similar to the Glintblade Phalanx as it circles around you or dodges your attacks. This attack hits hard but will come out after a small delay, which means it's possible to dodge the entire volley if you move at the right direction.

To dodge the Glintblade Phalanx, you need to run opposite of where the sorceries was cast. If the Glintblade Phalanx appears at the Red Wolf's left side for example, you need to start running to the right of the wolf so you can evade the attack completely.

Roll Towards Its Jumping Comet Attack

The Red Wolf's jumping Comet attack is one of its strongest attacks, but it's also the easiest to dodge. Once you see a flash of light appear from the Red Wolf's mouth, dodge or roll towards the Wolf to completely evade the attack.

Use Weapons that Deal Slash Damage

Weapon Type Weaknesses
Slashing Weapons

The Red Wolf of Radagon is very weak against weapons that deal slashing damage. Katanas like the Uchigatana is a great weapon to use against the boss due to the weapon's fast attacks.

For the later Red Wolf variants, particularly the ones in Moonlight Altar and Consecrated Snowfield, it's a good idea to dual wield two katanas due to its faster powerstancing attacks.

Rivers of Blood is a good weapon to use against these later bosses, especially when paired with a Cold infused Uchigatana. While all Red Wolves have high resistance to Bleed and Frost, they will still get affected by both status conditions and will get momentarily stunned by the bleed and frost proc, giving you an opening to attack while its prone.

Equip the Beast-Repellent Torch

For the Red Wolf encounters in Nokron, Moonlight Altar, and Consecrated Snowfield, equipping the Beast-Repellent Torch on your off-hand will stop the smaller wolves from attacking and make it easier to take on the actual boss.

Red Wolf of Radagon Attack Patterns

Note: All Red Wolves share the same basic attack patterns

Bite Attacks

Bite Attack Variations
Lunging Bite - Red Wolf of Radagon - Elden Ring
Lunging Bite: Red Wolf lunges at you from a distance and bites at you. You can dodge into this attack to avoid it, but you'll have to make sure your timing's right. Red Wolf will always land behind you, so you can attack it with a ranged weapon while it recovers.
Triple Bite - Red Wolf of Radagon - Elden Ring
Triple Bite: Red Wolf does two quick bites at you, then winds up to do one final bite that goes upwards. You can avoid the first two hits by dodging side to side or blocking. Make sure you don't spam the dodge button to avoid the final bite since Red Wolf will hesitate for a second before attacking you again. If you avoid these attacks, you can deal decent damage to Red Wolf since it'll take some time to recover.

Sword Attacks

Sword Attack Variations
Blade Spin - Red Wolf of Radagon - Elden Ring
Blade Spin: Red Wolf spins around with its sword, damaging you if you're caught in the movement. It's safest to dodge backward to avoid this attack entirely.
Two Hit Sword Attack - Red Wolf of Radagon - Elden Ring
2-Hit Sword Attack: Red Wolf swings a sword to one side, then swings it again to the other side. You can dodge backward to avoid these hits, but if you find yourself caught in the attack range, you can dodge to the opposite side of where Red Wolf swings its blade or block the attacks.
Three Hit Sword Attack - Red Wolf of Radagon - Elden Ring
3-Hit Sword Attack: This has the same pattern as the 2-Hit Sword Attack but will end with Red Wolf jumping then slamming its sword to the ground. If you dodge into Red Wolf right as it drops down, you'll be able to attack it 2-3 times.
Jumping Sword Attack - Red Wolf of Radagon - Elden Ring
Jumping Sword Attack: If you're far from Red Wolf, it'll pull its sword back then close the distance between the two of you by leaping in the air and slamming its sword to the ground. This is very easy to avoid by simply dodging into the attack as Red Wolf drops. This is also a great opportunity to get some free hits since it'll take time to recover.

Magic Attacks

Magic Attack Variations
Magic Daggers - Red Wolf of Radagon - Elden Ring
Magic Daggers: When there's distance between you and Red Wolf, it'll cast a spell that hurls magic daggers at you. It'll either cast one dagger or three, but avoiding these will have the same method. You can either sprint or dodge to the side.
Charged Blast - Red Wolf of Radagon - Elden Ring
Charged Blast: After casting Magic Daggers, Red Wolf will sometimes suddenly glow light blue. This means it's about to jump up and fire a magic blast at you. Since it's casting this in unison with Magic Daggers, you'll have to dodge twice.
