Status Effects are harmful effects that can be applied to enemies or your character in Elden Ring. Read on to learn more about what each status effect does and how you can cure them.

All Status Effects

Status effects are harmful effects that can affect enemies and the player's character. These effects can be applied through weapons, spells, incantations, and even the environment.

Stats Effect Description
Poison Poison Once the meter is filled, the target's health will deplete by 7 HP per tick over 90 seconds.
Poison Deadly Poison A much stronger form of Poison, with health depletion at 21 HP per tick over 30 seconds.
RotScarlet Rot A status effect similar to poison but has stronger damage over time and is harder to apply. The base damage of Scarlet Rot is 15 HP per tick over 90 seconds.
Unlike Poison, the damage of Scarlet Rot varies depending on its source and does not scale based on stats.
Bleed Blood Loss Once the meter is filled, the target will take damage around 15-25% of their max HP.
FrostFrostbite Once the meter is filled, the target will take damage around 10-25% of their max HP. While frostbitten, the target will take 20% increased damage from other sources and recover stamina slower.
SleepSleep Once the meter is filled, the target will fall asleep, making them open for critical attacks that have 50% increased damage compared to normal critical attacks.
Enemies with lower resistance fall asleep instantly, while stronger enemies and player characters are only staggered.
MadnessMadness Once the madness meter is filled, you will be staggered and take a large amount of damage to your HP and FP relative to their values.
Madness is only effective against player characters and invading NPCs.
Death BlightDeath Blight If the Death Blight meter is filled, you will die instantly regardless of your stats and equipment.

Use the Speckled Hardtear in Wondrous Physick

Rest at Sites of Grace

Site of Grace

Another effective way to cure any status is to visit a Site of Grace if you're in the open world. Sites of Grace are resting points where you can rest and recover from all kinds of status effects and recover HP and FP.

How to Use A Site of Grace

Use Armor and Talismans that Raise Immunity

There are armor pieces and talismans in the game that raise immunity to specific status effects. Great examples of this are the Immunizing Horn Charm and the Mushroom Armor which significantly increases your resistance to Scarlet Rot.

Increase Vigor for Immunity

Aside from raising your maximum health, Vigor also raises your Immunity which is a defensive stat that slows the buildup of status effects. Keep in mind that Vigor only raises Immunity once it's leveled up above 30.

How to Apply Status Effects

Use a Weapon or Item that Has Status Buildup

You can apply status effects by using your weapons that have innate affinities with status buildup. You can also use greases on your weapons to apply your desired status effect.

Examples of weapons with innate status buildup are Serpentbone Blade which deals Deadly Poison buildup, and Rivers of Blood which deals Blood Loss buildup.

Other items such as pots can also be crafted to apply status effects against enemies.

Use Whetblades or Ashes of War to Apply Affinities with Status Buildup

Applying Ashes of War with Whetblades allows you to change the affinity of your weapon, granting the ability to apply status buildup. Keep in mind that the only status buildup available for weapons are Blood Loss, Poison, and Frostbite

  • Scarlet Rot: A red mist emits from the body of the enemy.
  • Blood Loss: The enemy bleeds out and their health takes a significant amount of damage.
  • Frostbite: The enemy's health takes a significant amount of damage and a blueish-white mist emits from them.
  • Sleep: The enemy falls asleep or is staggered with a purple mist emitting from them.
  • Madness: The enemy burns with the yellow flame of frenzy.
  • Death Blight: A black root sprouts to impale an enemy.
