Millicent Quest and Location

Millicent is an NPC in Elden Ring initially found in Caelid. Read on to learn more about Millicent's quest walkthrough, location, armor and weapon drops, and lore!

Millicent Quest Walkthrough

Millicent's questline is one of the lengthiest in the game. Use the table below to quickly jump to each step of Millicent's difficult questline. Complete it to get the Miquella's Needle key item as well as a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone reward.

Obtain the Unalloyed Gold Needle

Before you can begin Millicent's questline, you will need to complete most of Gowry's questline. Retrieve the Unalloyed Gold Needle for him and he will ask you to give it to Millicent to cure her of the Scarlet Rot.

Note: If players visit the Church of Plague before they attain the Unalloyed Gold Needle, Millicent will simply warn them off and the questline will not begin.

Defeat Commander O'Neil

In order to obtain the Unalloyed Gold Needle, players will need to defeat Commander O'Neil in the Aeonia Swamp. On death he will drop the needle and his Commander's Standard.

Tip: For players having a hard time killing the boss, it is recommended to fight him on horseback. Doing so limits his moveset while also allowing you to weave in and out of his wide, sweeping attacks.

Give the Needle to Gowry

Before players can give the Unalloyed Gold Needle to Millicent, it must first be remade by Gowry. In order to repair the needle, head to Gowry's Shack to the south of Sellia. Give the needle to Gowry, reload the area, then speak to him again to have it repaired.

Note: It is not necessary to have spoken to Gowry before getting the needle. His questline will progress as long as you have the Unalloyed Gold Needle in your inventory.

Millicent can be found at the Swamp of Aeonia in Caelid. To trigger her invasion, approach from the west side of the swamp, preferably from the Aeonia Swamp Shore site of grace.

Another thing to remember is that Millicent's invasion instance can be skipped. Once you cure her of the Scarlet Rot, she will no longer spawn as an invader. Make sure to complete this encounter before giving her the gold needle.

Strike her with strong attacks to break her Poise

Millicent is an offensive powerhouse with just one move, the Waterfowl Dance, but doesn't have many options in the way of defense. Instead of giving her the chance to spam this attack, start the fight with a strong jumping strike and there's a good chance that she'll be staggered.

Default to an aggressive playstyle to end the fight quickly

In addition to the Rot-inducing water, there are also strong enemies nearby that may shoot you with disks from their Halo Scythes, so your best chance at survival is to end the fight quickly. Go on the offensive against Millicent as soon as she enters the area and don't let her start her Waterfowl Dance.

Use a spell that inflicts physical damage to stagger the boss

As a humanoid enemy, the Invader NPC version of Millicent can be easily staggered. Ranged builds can take adavantage of this and equip a spell that does physical damage like Rock Sling.

Give the Needle to Millicent at the Church of Plague

With the Unalloyed Gold Needle in hand, return to the Church of Plague and give the needle to Millicent. Reload the area by resting at the nearby site of grace to progress Millicent's recovery.

Speak to Millicent after she is cured and she will reward you with the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom, a talisman that raises your Dexterity. Exhaust her dialogue to continue her questline.

Return to Gowry's Shack and Speak to Millicent

The next time you meet Millicent will be at Gowry's Shack. After speaking to her at the Church of Plague, simply fast travel to the Sellia Under-Stair site of grace and head over to the shack. Exhaust Millicent's dialogue to progress her questline.

Players will next encounter Millicent at the Altus Plateau. She can be found standing quite close to the Erdtree-Gazing Hill site of grace. Exhaust her dialogue to find out she is retracing Malenia's footsteps and is in need of a functional arm.

How to Get to the Altus Plateau

To easiest way to get to the Altus Plateau is by using the Grand Lift of Dectus. Retrieve both the Dectus Medallion (Left) and Dectus Medallion (Right) to activate the Grand Lift.

Retrieve the Valkyrie's Prosthesis

Give Millicent a hand by retrieving the Valkyrie's Prothesis from the Shaded Castle at the Altus Plateau. Once you have it, return to the Erdtree-Gazing Hill and give her the prosthesis. Exhaust her dialogue to progress the quest.

Retrieve the Prosthesis from the Shaded Castle

In order to progress this quest, players will need to retrieve the Valkyrie's Prosthesis from the Shaded Castle in the Altus Plateau. The item can be found in the northwest tower of the castle, guarded by a Cleanrot Knight.

Give the Prosthesis to Millicent

Return to Millicent at the Erdtree-Gazing Hill site of grace and give her the prosthesis. She will thank you and ask you to call upon her for aid in a future battle.

Defeat the Godskin Apostle at the Windmill Village

Millicent's final appearance in the region will be at the Dominula, Windmill Village. Since you gave her an arm, she will be available as a gold summon when you challenge the Godskin Apostle guarding the Windmill Heights site of Grace.

Once the boss is defeated, rest at the site of grace to spawn in Millicent. Speak to her to complete her Altus Plateau appearances and progress her questline.

Millicent can be found right next to the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins site of grace at the Mountaintops of the Giants. Speak to her here to know more about Malenia and the secret Haligtree.

Defeat the Main Bosses in Leyndell

Required Bosses to Beat
Draconic Tree Sentinel	Godfrey, First Elden Lord	Morgott the Omen King

In order to unlock the Mountaintops of the Giants region, players will need to defeat the Main Story bosses in Leyndell. This list includes the Draconic Tree Sentinel, Godfrey the First Elden Lord, and Morgott the Omen King.

Once these three bosses are beaten, Melina will give you the medallion to activate the Grand Lift of Rold, which takes you to the Mountaintops of the Giants region.

Defeat the Black Blade Kindred at the Grand Lift of Rold

This step is optional. For players who want to make good on Millicent's offer to help you out, she will be a gold summon for this Black Blade Kindred boss fight.

Activate the Grand Lift of Rold

Once players arrive at the lift, hoist the Rold Medallion to ascend to the Mountaintops of the Giants. From there, head over to the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins site of grace to meet with Millicent.

Speak to Millicent at the Haligtree Prayer Room

Millicent will next appear at the Haligtree Prayer Room, just beside the site of grace. This location is found at the Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree area. Speak to her here in order to progress her questline.

Complete Latenna's Questline

Latenna's questline will lead players to discovering the secret area called the Consecrated Snowfields. This will be the first step to getting to the Haligtree and reuniting with Millicent.

Complete her questline to not only unlock the region, but also get a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone for your troubles.

Solve the Ordina Town Puzzle

Next, players will have to unlock the Haligtree area itself. To do that, solve the statue lighting puzzle at Ordina, Liturgical Town. Lighting all 4 statues will open the seal blocking the Haligtree waygate.

Note: When players undertake this puzzle, invisible Black Knife Assassins will start patrolling the streets. Run away from fights as much as possible since they will only delay you.

Defeat Loretta the Knight of the Haligtree

The final obstacle to reaching the Brace of the Haligtree is the Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree boss fight. While similar to the earlier Loretta boss battle in Caria Manor, this version will be using much stronger sorceries.

Defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit

In order to get to the final act of Millicent's questline, players will need to defeat the rotting Ulcerated Tree Spirit near the Drainage Channel site of grace. Once killed, the summon and invasion signs for Millicent's quest will spawn in the area.

Unlock the Drainage Channel Site of Grace

Before proceeding to Millicent's quest location, it is recommended that players first find and unlock the Drainage Channel site of grace at the Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree.

Not only will this help finding the Malenia boss room later on, it will also give you a closer respawn without having to go through the Scarlet Rot waterfall.

Miquella's Haligtree Legacy Dungeon Walkthrough and Location

Defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit

There will be a large rotten tree worm in the arena you will assist or invade Millicent in. It will have the same moveset as the Ulcerated Tree Spirit but, instead of flames, it spews Scarlet Rot.

The summon signs will not appear until you kill this mini-boss. Gear up and prepare Preserving Boluses to defend against Scarlet Rot.

How to Cheese the Ulcerated Tree Spirit

Since this fight is made tricky by the small arena, Scarlet Rot buildup, and fall hazards, players can opt to take a step back and just shoot the Ulcerated Tree Spirit with a bow until it dies.

Once it spawns, jump back onto the branch you used to get to the arena and start shooting at the mini-boss using any upgraded bow, crossbow, or greatbow that you can wield. You will be safe from all attacks when using this strat.

Assist or Challenge Millicent

The final act of Millicent's questline will be a choice between helping or invading her. Help her out if you want to retrieve Miquella's Needle and subdue the Frenzied Flame, later on. Otherwise, players can opt to kill her.

Note: Players aiming to get the Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone reward will have to assist Millicent. Killing her will lock you out of this reward.

① Assist Millicent Against Her Sisters ② Challenge and Kill Millicent

Assist Millicent

Activate the gold summon sign and help Millicent defeat her 4 sisters. Once beaten, you will be rewarded with the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia. After the you return to your world, speak to the dying Millicent and exhaust her dialogue. Reload the area and return to her body to pick up the Unalloyed Gold Needle.

Warning: There is currently a bug where dropping onto Millicent after the fight will kill her but not spawn the Unalloyed Gold Needle drop. If this happens, players will not be able to obtain Miquella's Needle.

Challenge Millicent

If players do not plan to use Miquella's Needle, they can instead opt to fight Millicent as an invader. Defeating her will reward you with the Millicent's Prosthesis talisman.

Warning: If you kill Millicent she will not drop the Unalloyed Gold Needle. This prevents you from getting the Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone from Malenia's flower, later on.

Return to Gowry (Optional)

After Millicent meets her end, return to Gowry in Caelid for additional dialogue. If you challenged Millicent, Gowry will be dead when you arrive. He will drop his Bell Bearing as well as the Flock's Canvas Talisman - an item that greatly increases the potency of incantations.

If you aided Millicent, Gowry will still be alive when you return. However, he will no longer be available as a merchant. Players can opt to kill him here to get both his Bell Bearing and talisman.

Retrieve Miquella's Needle

To complete Millicent's questline, players will need to take the Unalloyed Gold Needle to Malenia's flower near the Haligtree Roots. To get the flower to spawn, players will need to defeat Malenia, Blade of Miquella.

Use the Unalloyed Gold Needle on Malenia's flower to get both Miquella's Needle and a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone as rewards.

This is an optional boss for players who assisted Milllicent against her sisters. Defeat Malenia, Blade of Miquella at the Haligtree Roots and use the Unalloyed Gold Needle on her flower form to retrieve Miquella's Needle.

How to Use Miquella's Needle

Miquella's Needle is used to quell the Frenzied Flame. For players who embraced the Three Fingers and inherited the flame of frenzy, you can opt out of the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending by using this needle.

To quell the Frenzied Flame, head over to Crumbling Farum Azula and access the arena of Dragonlord Placidusax. You do not need to fight this boss. Simply use the needle in front of him to allow access to the other endings of the game.

Millicent can be found inside the Church of Plague in Caelid. She will be seated next to the large statue at the back of the ruined church. Do note that you cannot advance her questline until you progress Gowry's first.

Lore

• Millicent was found as a baby in the Aeonia Swamp. Gowry the sage raised her and considered her one of his own daughters. He comments that she has great potential to become a capable warrior.
• Eventually, Millicent is infected by the Scarlet Rot, a disease that erodes both the body and the mind. However, before she can succumb to the disease, Gowry enlists the help of the Tarnished to cure her and help her face her true destiny.
• While not made clear, Millicent herself comes to realize that she is closely related to Malenia, the Goddess of Rot and her journey takes her to the roots of the great Haligtree.

Trivia

• Millicent can be encountered as an Invader when players enter the Aeonia Swamp from the west. This version of the invader will have two arms but still sport the hair-down hairstyle of the Scarlet Rot infested Millicent.
• If players cure the Scarlet Rot without having first beaten the invader, she will despawn and no longer invade your world when you enter the Aeonia Swamp.
• Millicent's sisters from eldest to youngest are as follows: Mary, Maureen, Amy, and Polyanna.
