Soldier of Godrick is located in Fringefolk Hero's Grave, down a pit you can jump into. You can skip Soldier of Godrick by heading onward up the stairs and past the Site of Grace.

Guard Counter Then Visceral Attack

Do just as the tutorial prompt tells you by doing a Guard Counter by blocking an attack, then pressing R2 / RT to break Soldier of Godrick's stance. This will put him into a vulnerable state where you can hit attack to trigger a critical hit that kills him.

Perform a Backstab

Doing a critical hit from Soldier of Godrick's back will kill him instantly. Try to get behind Soldier of Godrick by dodging his attacks, then hit attack when you're directly behind him to land a backstab.

Soldier of Godrick Attack Patterns

Running Thrust

Soldier of Godrick charges briefly, then runs a few steps and thrusts his sword. It's best to dodge this to the left or right.

Two-Hit Combo

Soldier of Godrick slashes downward, then upward in a two-hit combo. He usually follows it up with a Running Thrust. Avoid the first two hits by dodging backward, then dodging to the side for the thrust.

Horizontal Swing

Soldier of Godrick charges up for a strike, then powerfully swing his sword horizontally. Easily avoided by dodging backward.

Downward Smash

Soldier of Godrick charges up for a strike, then smashes his sword downward into the ground. It's best to block this attack, and perform a Guard Counter right after. Dodging to the sides is also good.
