Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze Location

Found Inside the Belurat Gaol

Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze is found at the bottom of the Belurat Gaol, by a small lake east of the walls of the Belurat Legacy Dungeon. Descend rocky paths and jump on hanging jars to get to the boss arena.

Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze Weakness

Weak to Slash Damage

Swordmaster Onze is weak to Slash damage. Equip any of the following weapon types to deal Slash damage: Curved Swords, Curved Greatswords, Katanas, Great Katanas, Reapers or Claws.

Some great slashing weapons to use against Onze include the Backhand Blades (which you can also infuse with Fire for more damage), and the Rivers of Blood.

List of All Slash Weapons

Weak to Fire Damage

Being a Demi-Human, Swordmaster Onze is naturally weak to fire. Since the boss is quick and nimble, you can opt to infuse your weapon with ashes of war like Flaming Strike (since it can stagger smaller foes), use quick-cast incantations like Catch Flame, or simply change your weapon's affinity to Fire or Flame Art.

List of All Fire Weapons

Weak to Poison and Scarlet Rot

Onze is also weak to Poison and Scarlet Rot. Weapons like the Antspur Rapier and Poisoned Hand are good weapons to use if you plan to proc these status effects. Incantations like Scarlet Aeonia and Rotten Breath are also good options to inflict Scarlet Rot.

Best Build Against Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze

Slashing and Fire Weapons are Recommended

Rivers of Blood ImageRivers of Blood Backhand Blade Icon Backhand Blade
(Fire affinity)

Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze's main weaknesses are Slash weapons and Fire, which makes Rivers of Blood the best choice of weapon against this boss to cover both weaknesses on top of the blood loss buildup passive.

You can also use non-unique Slash weapons that you have already upgraded, changing their affinity to Fire to target Onze's weakness. However, since the Fire affinity adds STR scaling, DEX builds can instead opt to use Fire Grease as an alternative.

Imbue Regular Weapons With Fire Ashes of War

: Flame SpearAsh of War: Flame Spear : Flaming StrikeAsh of War: Flaming Strike

Instead of simply changing a non-unique weapon's affinity to Fire, you can change its ash of war to either Flame Spear or Flaming Strike. These ashes of war not only deal fire damage but also imbue your weapon with fire element.

Use Catch Flame or Giantsflame Take Thee for Spells

Catch Flame Icon Catch Flame Giantsflame Take Thee Icon Giantsflame Take Thee

Fire spells are also the best spells to take up your memory slots if you're running a magic-based build.

Catch Flame is for dealing quick fire damage as you dodge Onze's attacks while Giantsflame Take Thee is for dealing heavy fire damage whenever he stops attacking, either in-between combos or if you're not within melee range.

Specific Recommended Build: Dual Katana Build

Rivers of Blood Icon Rivers of Blood Uchigatana Icon Uchigatana
(Fire affinity)
Character Stat Distribution
VIG 50 MND 20
END 25 STR 16
DEX 50 ARC 53

If you're willing to respec your stats through Rennala's rebirth, we recommended going with a Dual Katana build to defeat Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze.

Dual wielding Rivers of Blood and a Fire affinity Uchigatana lets you deal twice the fire damage and inflict blood loss faster. If you're already in New Game Plus you can dual wield two Rivers of Blood instead.

Equip Talismans for Quick Attacks and Blood Loss

Winged Sword Insignia ImageWinged Sword Insignia MillicentMillicent's Prosthesis Lord of BloodLord of Blood's Exultation Fire Scorpion Charm ImageFire Scorpion Charm

As for the best talismans to use, both the Winged Sword Insignia and Millicent's Prosthesis are perfect when dual wielding fast hitting weapons. The Winged Sword Insignia can be replaced with the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia if you have it.

With twice the speed of blood loss buildup (or just the Corpse Piler ash of war), you'll also proc the damage buff from Lord of Blood's Exultation very early in the fight.

Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze General Tips

Tips for Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze

Be Ready to Dodge Fast Attacks

Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze trades size and short reach for speedy combos that are hard to track due to his ability to teleport forward and in the air. Track his movements so you can find when he blinks forward and dodge accordingly.

Exploit Openings After Heavy Attacks

Though most of Onze's combos are fast multi-hit strings, he will sometimes do either a grab or a slam from mid-air, which will leave him wide open. Dodge those attacks, then attack right away with either your own combos or heavy attacks to break Onze's posture and set him up for critical hits.

Prepare Frost and Magic Resistance

Onze can ramp up his damage by infusing his sword with either frost or magic damage. If you plan to tank through his hits, prepare consumables like Spellproof Dried Liver and Thawfrost Boluses to soften his strikes and get rid of frost buildup.
