Dexterity Stat Explained: What Does Dexterity Do?

Elden Ring Dexterity Explained.png

Dexterity is one of the main stat categories in Elden Ring. Read on to learn what the Dexterity attribute does including what it affects and how to increase it!

What Does Dexterity Do?

Boosts Damage of Dexterity Weapons

The Dexterity attribute is necessary to equip armaments that have this specific stat requirement and it directly affects the damage dealt by these weapons, commonly referred to as weapon scaling. The amount of bonus damage gained from the stat also depends on the scaling grade of the weapon you are using.

Stat Scaling Explained

Cast Sorceries and Incantations Faster

Dexterity can improve the casting speed of your Sorceries and Incantations, decreasing the amount of time needed to cast them. Some spells take a very long time to cast and investing in this stat can be very beneficial if you are planning to build a Mage character.

Reduces Fall Damage

This stat also reduces the amount of fall damage that you take, just make sure that you are not falling from heights that will most certainly kill you.

Harder to Get Knocked Off Torrent

While mounted on Torrent, you can get staggered and knocked off of him exposing you to attacks. The higher your Dexterity, the more direct damage you can take before being dismounted by enemies.

Level Up Stats at Sites of Grace

Leveling up your main attributes can be done by resting at any Site of Grace after you've unlocked this option and met with Melina. She is always certain to appear at the Gatefront Site of Grace.

To add points to your stats, Runes will be exchanged. Once you have the required amount, select the option Level Up from the Site of Grace menu and select the stats that you wish to increase.

A Stat with Beneficial Properties

Dexterity not only provides bonus damage scaling to Dex weapons, but also assists with many stats involved in exploration. There will be times when having an extra bit of Poise while on Torrent or barely surviving a fall will save you from dying, making this a great stat to level up.

Dexterity is Required for Many Weapons

Many weapons in the game will require a combination of two or more attributes to wield. Leveling this attribute to a certain extent will allow you to meet the minimum requirement to use these armaments.

If you are set on building around Dexterity-based weapons, then investing in this attribute is the way to go. You'll be able to get the most out of your weapon of choice and be able to deal high amounts of damage. Do note that attributes each have their stat cap and leveling them past this will no longer be beneficial.
