Story Main Bosses

Main Story Boss Progression By Region
Limgrave ➤ Altus Plateau ➤ Mountaintops of the Giants ➤ Crumbling Farum Azula ➤ Leyndell, Ashen Capital

Only two Great Runes are needed to complete the game. By following this route, you can obtain Godrick's and Morgott's Great Runes.

While the game can be finished and NG+ started after defeating the Elden Beast without doing any of the optional areas, you miss out on Runes for leveling up, Remembrances, and other Great Runes to make your character stronger.

It should be noted that the Elden Beast in Leyndell, Ashen Capital serves as the final boss of the game. However, even after the Elden Beast is defeated, you can still do the other areas before coming back to pick an ending.

These set of bosses can be done anytime during the game and are not required in order to complete the story.

However, defeating them will reward you with items, Runes, Remembrances, and Great Runes which can be used to make your character stronger. These bosses can be tackled when you are in the same areas as some of the main story bosses.
