After defeating Radahn, return to his boss arena and follow the cliff to the Northern shore. The entrance to the War-Dead Catacombs will be in the cliffside near the shore. Proceed through the dungeon to fight the Putrid Tree Spirit boss at the end.

Learn the Dodge Timing for the Grab

Putrid Tree Spirit's grab attack hits hard and can even one-shot you depending on your Vigor and armor. The most reliable way of dealing with this attack is to make sure you can read the boss' movements and recognize when to roll.

Have a Healing Option for Scarlet Rot

On top of having high damage physical attacks, the Putrid Tree Spirit can also inflict you with Scarlet Rot. Make sure you have access to either Flame, Cleanse Me or a good stock of Preserving Boluses to counteract this status effect.

Equip Armor with High Immunity

Armor with high immunity raises your resistance to Poison and Scarlet Rot. It's recommended to equip armor with both high Physical Defense and Immunity for the best results. Since you have undoubtedly beaten Radahn at this point, it's worth making a trip back to the Roundtable Hold to buy his armor set which just so happens to have both high Physical Defense and Immunity.

Melee Attacks

Melee Attack Variations
Sweeping Attack: Putrid Tree Spirit slowly turns and sweeps the area in front of it. Roll to the side as it reaches you.
Diving Strike: Putrid Tree Spirit screams before leaping then diving at you. Roll to the side as it dives down to you to evade this.
Head Slam: Putrid Tree Spirit slams its head down on you. Rolling in any direction lets you avoid this.

Scarlet Rot Attacks

Scarlet Rot Attack Variations
Scarlet Rot Explosion: Once you've halved Putrid Tree Spirit's health, it will charge up an explosion that deals heavy damage and causes Scarlet Rot to build up. Get away from the explosion's AoE once this attack begins.
Fire Breathing: The Putrid Tree Spirit can breathe fire at you from any distance. This will also cause Scarlet Rot to build up. Run to the side as it prepares to use this move.
Diving Grab: Putrid Tree Spirit leaps away then turns to grab you in its mouth. It will start inflicting Scarlet Rot with its flaming breath. Roll away from it as it dives down to grab you.
