Esgar, Priest of Blood is fought as the boss of Leyndell Catacombs, which is located within the Subterranean Shunning Grounds in Leyndell, Royal Capital.

When to Fight Esgar, Priest of Blood

Fight at Level 70+

The Subterranean Shunning Grounds is a difficult dungeon filled with powerful enemies, particularly Omens that can deal high damage against even high-leveled characters.

Get your character to at least Level 70 with enough Vigor so that you can easily navigate the Subterranean Shunning Grounds and the Leyndell Catacombs.

Equip the Beast-Repellent Torch

The two Rotten Strays that flank Esgar are actually more dangerous than the Priest of Blood himself, being able to easily KO you with just a few bite attacks.

Before the fight, simply equip the Beast-Repellent Torch to prevent the strays from attacking, allowing you to deal with Esgar without getting harassed.

Stagger HIm with Strong Attacks

Esgar, Priest of Blood is a humanoid enemy and is easily staggered by heavy and jumping attacks. Attacks from colossal weapons and colossal swords can even stunlock him, potentially even knocking him down to the ground.

Keep Your Distance When Esgar is Attacking

While Esgar isn't particularly tanky, all of his attacks will easily build up bleed and he can cast his bloody incantations relatively fast. Keep your distance when he's attacking, especially when he casts Bloodflame Talons as its delayed explosion can catch you as you charge him.

Use Weapons and Spells with AOE Attacks

Esgar is a relatively nimble boss that is good at dodging both weapon attacks and spells, but has trouble against any attack that deals AOE damage.

Weapons with the Ash of War Storm Stomp are good at interrupting his attacks and catching him when he rolls, allowing you to follow up with another attack.

Sorceries such as Meteorite and Meteorite of Astel are particularly good for this fight due to the relatively small size of the boss room and can stagger Esgar if not outright KO him with just a few hits.
