Astel, Stars of Darkness is found at the end of Yelough Anix Tunnel in the Consecrated Snowfield section of the Mountaintops of the Giants.

When to Fight Astel, Stars of Darkness

It's recommended that you be at least level 100 before attempting Astel, Stars of Darkness. This boss can deal a lot of damage even at level 100, and has a lot of health, so be sure you have a weapon upgraded to +20 or higher as well.

Aim for the Head
Avoid Grab Attacks
Bait Out Pincer Attacks and use Jump Attacks

Aim for the Head

This boss takes the most damage when attacking its head so to take it out quickly, you will want to focus your attacks there. Astel has a few dangerous pincer attacks and tail attacks depending on your positioning though, so be aware of how the boss is moving before you begin approaching for an attack.

Avoid Grab Attacks

Around half health, Astel will begin using a grab attack after doing his usual teleports. If you see the boss teleport and come down from above near your position, get ready to time a roll to avoid getting grabbed.

When Astel is low on health, he will do an even more extreme version of this grab where multiple clones of Astel will descend in a circle around you all performing the same grab attack. To avoid this, try to position yourself in the center of the circle and time your roll to avoid being grabbed.

Note: Either of these grab attack can easily one shot you even if you are at the recommended level.

Bait Out Pincer Attacks and Use Jump Attacks

After Astel performs pincer attacks, he has a long enough recovery for you to land a jump attack or two. Jump attacks are recommended here as they will help to stagger the boss allowing you to get a critical, and they can help ensure you land the hit if your melee weapon doesn't have much range.

Keep in mind that at close range the boss has two types of pincer attacks and at mid range a tail attack. One of the pincer attacks is a multi hit attack, and the other is a grab after Astel's pincers glow with purple energy.
