Lamenter Location and How to Beat

Found Inside Lamenter's Gaol

Lamenter can be found deep within Lamenter's Gaol after the player acquires the Lower Level key to descend to his room.

Lamenter Weakness

Weak to Slash Damage

Lamenter is weakest to Slash-type damage, so use weapon classes that specialize in that type of damage like Backhand Blades, Curved Greatswords, Claws, and Katanas.

Good weapons from these categories that you can try using include the Backhand Blade, Bloodhound's Fang, Venomous Fang, and Rivers of Blood.

Weak to Lightning

Lightning attacks deal the most extra damage against Lamenter. Target this weakness by wielding weapons that deal Lightning damage like the Death Knight's Twin Axes and Dragon Greatclaw.

If you don't have any melee weapons that come with Lightning damage, you can still infuse weapons with the element by using Dragonbolt Grease, Vyke's Dragonbolt, or Lightning affinity via the Sanctified Whetblade.

If you're a ranged FAI caster, you can instead use spells like Lightning Spear and Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike to strike Lamenter from a distance.

Weapons with AoE Ashes of War Are Recommended

Instead of using weapons the Lamenter is weak to, we highly recommend equipping weapons with Ashes of War that deal AoE damage. Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear and the Hand of Malenia both have great AoE Ashes of War that can help deal with Lamenter's summons.

Equip Talismans That Can Manage FP Usage

Cerulean Amber Medallion +3

Since we'll be spamming AoE Ashes of War, we highly recommend getting Talismans that can alleviate the FP costs your Ashes of Wars. The Carian Filigreed Crest directly reduces the cost of your Ash of War while Cerulean Amber Medallion can increase your max FP.

Use AoE Spells to Clear Illusions

Spellcaster builds can use Incantations and Sorceries that deal AoE damageto help deal with Lamenter's summoned illusions. Instead of trying to search for the real Lamenter one by one, use these spells to clear out groups until you reveal the real Lamenter.

Equip Talismans That Enhance Spell Damage

For spellcaster builds that have low DEX, make sure to equip the Radagon Icon to improve your casting speed. To boost your Sorcery or Incantation damage, you can equip the Graven-Mass Talisman or Flock's Canvas Talisman, respectively.

Use Spirit Ashes to Clear Out Illusions or Draw Aggro

If you're struggling to deal with the Lamenter's summoned illusions, you can use Spirit Ashes to pull aggro, freeing you up to spam your AoE Ashes of War or AoE spells. The Mimic Tear is great since it effectively doubles your AoE attacks, while summons like Taylew can help draw aggro for pure spellcaster builds.

Stay Aggressive Clear All of His Clones

Stay Aggressive

The Lamenter is a straightforward boss, and so caution can be thrown to the wind when facing off against this opponent.

Chain combos together, use offensive spells, anything you can do to rush down this boss as quickly as possible.

Easily Poise-Broken

The Lamenter will attempt to keep his distance from the player and only strike when the opportunity arises, as he can be repeatedly stunlocked if your weapon carries high poise damage.

Use this knowledge to delay him from summoning his clones to fight you.

Clear All of His Clones

When the Lamenter rings his bell, he will disappear and reappear with seven additional copies of himself that have individual HPs and do not affect the Lamenter.

Simply kill all of them as fast as you can until you find the real Lamenter, as all of these copies have extremely low HP, and can be oneshotted in most cases.

Watch The Tallies on You

If some copies survive when the Lamenter rings his bell, a tally of heads will start accumulating around the player.

When this happens, try your best to leave no copies behind, or to close out the fight. If the head tally completes, then the player will fall to their knees and instantly die.

Defeating Lamenter Grants Lamenter's Mask

The Lamenter's Mask can be received as a reward from defeating the Lamenter.

Provided you don't have any armor equipped, using the Lamenter's Mask lets you transform into a Lamenter Omen, changing your appearance and giving you an ability to enlarge your head and knock back some enemies.
