Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Blackgaol Knight Weakness and Location

Elden Ring - Blackgaol Knight

Blackgaol Knight is an optional boss inside the Western Nameless Mausoleum in the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree. Read on to learn more about the Blackgaol Knight, including its location, stats and drops, and how to beat it.

Blackgaol Knight Weakness

Weak to Lightning

Blackgaol Knight is weak to attacks that deal Lightning damage. This element dealt the most damage per hit when we used different types of elemental grease on the same weapon against Blackgaol Knight.

Luckily, Blackgaol Knight is a humanoid enemy so you can backstab, parry, or stagger him with a strong lightning weapon like Dragon Greatclaw or a Lightning-infused weapon of your choice.

For ranged builds, you can go with Knight's Lightning Spear spam, but make sure to use talismans that speed up your casts like Radagon Icon or only do the uncharged casts to avoid taking damage.

Weak to Strike Weapons

Since Blackgaol Knight is equipped with heavy armor, Strike Weapons will benefit the most to help stagger and break his stance. Consider using a Lightning-infused Great Stars or Giant-Crusher.

Blackgaol Knight General Tips

Tips for Beating Blackgaol Knight

Force Out His Crossbow Attack

If you keep yourself at mid range from him, it may prompt him to take out his crossbow to shoot.

This barrage can easily be outrun, giving the player free hits against the Blackgaol Knight if they can trigger this over and over.

Dodge and Counter

The Blackgaol Knight's different attacks all have long cooldown times, allowing him to be punished easily. Every attack string can open him up for one or two hits before backing away and letting him swing again.

In terms of any weird gimmicks, the Blackgaol Knight fights exactly like an invader or a mimic, making his moveset simple to understand and somewhat predictable.

Be Patient and Wait for Openings

The Blackgaol Knight seems to boast a decent amount of Poise, able to shrug off most weak hits.

With this in mind, do not try to get more than two hits in at most to ensure that the Knight does not get a chance to punish you.

Collect Scadutree Blessings Before the Fight

Scadutree Fragment 2

You will likely encounter the Blackgaol Knight early on in the DLC. However, even with a high character level, the Blackgaol Knight's attacks do heavy damage to you until you upgrade your Scadutree Blessing level.

Collect Scadutree Fragments around the map before tackling this boss, up to at least Scadutree Blessing Level 3, to improve your odds of survival.

Bait Out His Crimson Flask

Elden Ring - Blackgaol Healing

When the Boss reaches 50% HP, he will drink a crimson flask to heal for 25% of his HP, but renders him unable to attack, giving the player a free hit.

After that, his flask will be empty, turning any of his attempts to heal into a free hit opportunity for the player.

Blackgaol Knight Location

Found Inside the Western Nameless Mausoleum

The Blackgaol Knight is a DLC side boss that can be found inside the Western Nameless Mausoleum at the Gravesite Plain region of the Land of Shadow. This dungeon can be found to the west of the Scorched Ruins landmark.
