How to Beat Fire Giant

Tips for Beating Fire Giant

Attack the Fire Giant From Behind

Most of the fire giant's attacks cover large areas in front of it, making its flank and rear the best spots to hang around most of the time.

Target the Left Ankle in Phase 1

Start strong by targetting the brace on the Fire Giant's left ankle. The giant drops to one knee for a few secondsonce enough damage has been dealt, allowing you to dish out heavy attacks and quickly build up Bleed procs as soon as possible.

Improve Fire Resistance

As its name implies, the Fire Giant has a good chunk of fire attacks that can deal high damage. Prepare for the fight pumping your Fire resistance with items such as the Flamedrake Talisman.

How to Get Flamedrake Talisman

Improve Physical Damage Negation

ANother talisman we recommend you get in preparation for the fight is the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +1 which boosts Physical Damage Negation. This is helpful in tanking the fire giant's plate, roll, or stomp attacks.

How to Get Dragoncrest Shield Talisman

Utilize Torrent on Phase 2

The Fire Giant is surprisingly mobile even though it loses its left leg in Phase 2. It's rolls are extremely quick and lightly telegraphed. Stay on your toes and always be ready to ride Torrent for quick repositions.

Stay Close to Avoid Fireblasts

Fireblasts are extremely fast fireballs that deal high damage to anyone it hits. Always stay close or underneath the Fire Giant to prevent it from using this attack.

Take Advantage of its Weaknesses

Fire Giant Weaknesses
Slash Bleed Frostbite Lightning

The Fire Giant has four main weaknesses that you can exploit. Using any of these damage types can make the fight a lot easier, but Bleed and Slash are arguably the best ones out of the four.

Fire Giant Attack Patterns

Phase 1

Plate Attacks

The Fire Giant wields a giant plate, which will be his primary weapon in Phase 1. While the attacks are slow, each move deals heavy damage and has the potential to one-shot you.

Plate Attack Variations
Avalanche - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Avalanche: Fire Giant plants his plate into the ground and launches a trail of snow at you. This can knock you down if you're on Torrent. To avoid this, ride to the side once he slams the plate to the ground and get ready to jump.
Charged Slam - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Charged Slam: Fire Giant raises his plate overhead and winds up for a deadly slam. This has a long animation so don't dodge too early. If you're underneath him, his left foot will be your way to telegraph when he'll slam the plate down.
Plate Swipe - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Plate Swipe: Fire Giant swipes at the area in front of him. This is an easy attack to dodge, just pay attention to when he pulls the plate back with one arm.
Double Plate Combo - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Double Plate Combo: Fire Giant first does a quick slam to the ground, then does a sweeping motion.

Fire Attacks

Fire Attack Variations
Fire Orb - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Fire Orb: Fire Giant creates a slow-moving orb of fire that tracks you. Upon getting close to you, it explodes and causes heavy damage. Your cue to dodge is when it briefly lights up. He will create two Fire Orbs in Phase 2.
Fire Blast - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Fire Blast: Fire Giant swiftly shoots a fireball at you. This can be hard to dodge on foot due to the splash damage. He will launch two fireballs in quick succession in Phase 2.
Fire Zone - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Fire Zone: Fire Giant places his hands to the ground and creates a zone around him where fire bursts from the ground. It's risky to try finding a safe spot in the zone so just back away once he does this attack.

Stomp

Stomp Attack Information
Stomp - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Stomp: Fire Giant stomps the ground. This is a fairly simple attack, you can dodge as his feet reach their apex.

Roll

Roll Attack Information
Roll - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Roll: Fire Giant gets some distance by rolling away from you. Getting caught in the roll will cause you to take massive damage. He'll always roll once you break the brace on his left ankle. While this is a forward roll in Phase 1, this turns into a sideways roll in Phase 2.

Phase 2

Fire Attacks

Aside from upgrading his Fire Attacks in Phase 1, Fire Giant gains new fire abilities in his second phase that you'll need to watch out for.

Fire Attack Variations
Volcano - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Volcano: The mouth on Fire Giant's stomach erupts and launches multiple lava rocks that explode after briefly making contact with the ground. This has a long range so just ride away on Torrent as soon as the mouth starts erupting. He will always start Phase 2 with this attack.
Fire Breathing - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Fire Breathing: Fire Giant uses the mouth on its stomach to breathe fire at you. He can track you with this so use Torrent to avoid the flames.

Hand Slam

Hand Slam Attack Information
Hand Slam - Fire Giant - Elden Ring
Hand Slam: Fire Giant drops his plate in Phase 2 and uses his hands to attack you instead. He will slam the ground as you approach him, dealing massive damage. Don't approach him from the front or you'll definitely be hit by this.
