What to Do After Messmer

After beating Messmer your next objective is to burn the Sealing Tree and progress to reach the final boss in the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree. Read on to learn all the steps you need to do and where to go after beating Messmer.

Go to Ancient Ruins of Rauh and Find the Church of the Bud

After defeating Messmer, you have to burn the Sealing Tree in Ancient Ruins of Rauh; specifically located at the Church of the Bud.

Head west from the Storehouse, First Floor site of grace towards the West Rampart Site of grace. Afterward, traverse the bridge east then use the lift going up to Ancient Ruins of Rauh. From there, head west to reach the Church of Bud.

How to Reach the Church of the Bud
1	Take the lift on the west of the Storehouse, First Floor site of grace, and run past the living jar room, then rest at the West Rampart site of grace.
2	Open the small door on the right and summon Torrent to traverse the bridge quickly. You can ignore Fire Knight Salza who will spam Rain of Fire on you at the end of the bridge.
3	Head to the door on the right and use the lift to reach the Ancient Ruins of Rauh.
4	From the Viaduct Minor Tower site of grace, go to the south and check the cliffs nearby. You should see a ledge below that you can jump on to safely reach the area below. Upon landing, head west to reach the entrance to the ruins.
5	From the entrance of the ruins, travel north west and take the first left into a large room.
6	Head south to the other end of the room then turn right to the hallway. The spirit spring ahead will make sure you land safely on the underground area.
7	Continue heading northwest, ignoring the second spirit spring, and turn left at the end of the path.
8	Follow this river to the southeast until you reach the Rauh Ancient Ruins, East site of grace.
9	Now, run along the bridge southwest then jump down its other half to reach the other side. Turn south and run past the Furnace Golem until you reach the Rauh Ancient Ruins, West site of grace.
10	Enter the ruins northwest, climb up the stairs, and turn right to a room with a lot of bloodflame orbs being thrown around.
11	Take the path to the left and make for the lift on the other end.
12	Cross the pond and enter the next ruins to the north.
13	Take the stairs on your left. A message will appear on your screen warning of Hornsent's invasion.

Hornsent Questline Progress

If you summoned Hornsent against Messmer and helped him defeat Leda during his quest, then he will appear as an invader after the first rot-infested stairs at the Church of the Bud.

Defeat him to finish his questline and receive Hornsent's Armor Set (Caterpillar Mask, Braided Cord Robe, Braided Arm Wraps) and Falx (his Curved Sword).

Defeat Romina Saint of the Bud

Once you reach the Church of the Bud, you'll be able to challenge Romina, Saint of the Bud - the final remembrance boss that stands between you and the tower of Enir-Ilim. Defeat her to unlock the path to the Sealing Tree.

Dryleaf Dane will be an available gold summon for the Romina boss fight. However, do note that using gold summons that spawn outside the boss room will increase the HP of the boss and reduce the amount of Runes you get for beating them.

Burn the Sealing Tree

After burning the Sealing Tree, you'll access Enir-Ilim, the final area of the DLC. Note that this step is a point of no return for all NPC questlines, so it's best to finish all of them before burning the Sealing Tree.

Defeat Leda and Her Allies

Progress through Enir-Ilim until you reach the Cleansing Chamber Anteroom site of grace. Proceed to the large arena where you'll fight Leda and the other NPCs that follow Miquella.

You can summon Sir Ansbach and Thiollier with their respective gold summon signs before starting the fight against Leda via the red sign.

Defeat the Final Boss

Defeat the Final Boss to conclude the story of Shadow of the Erdtree. If you progressed Sir Ansbach and Thiollier's questlines until the fight against Leda, you'll see their gold summon signs outside the Final Boss room.
